Netflix is the home of one of the best entries in the Jurassic Park franchise, continuing the story of the recent Jurassic World movies with a multi-season series that features popular stars and connects to the Chris Pratt trilogy. Jurassic Park is one of the best movie franchises of all time, but there is still a lot of potential for it outside of theaters.
Sure, a large part of the sci-fi movie franchise‘s appeal is to see the staggering CGI that brings to life realistic dinosaurs on the biggest screens one can find. That said, long-form storytelling allows the franchise to expand in different ways, serving as a way to keep things fresh after over three decades. One of Netflix’s best series helps the Jurassic Park franchise by doing that.
Glen Powell’s Jurassic World Series On Netflix Has No Bad Seasons
While there have been rumors about plans for a live-action Jurassic Park series being in development, that has yet to be confirmed. That said, the sci-fi franchise has spawned a couple of animated series on Netflix, and the first of them showed how there is a lot of potential in the medium for dinosaur fans.
Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous debuted on Netflix on September 18, 2020, with the show running for five seasons, ending on July 21, 2022. In that time, the Netflix animated series simply delivered no bad seasons, which is an impressive feat. Season 1 does a phenomenal job of using the first Jurassic World movie for familiarity, while creating a new corner of the franchise for this series to take place.
After that, all bets are off, as viewers watch the Nublar Six, teenagers who got left behind to survive for themselves on Isla Nublar, as they desperately try to find their way home. Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous has well-rounded characters, a vibrant animation style, a compelling story, many connections to Chris Pratt’s Jurassic World trilogy, and huge stars like Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega.
Glen Powell, who turned down a role in Scarlett Johansson’s live-action Jurassic World Rebirth, voices the camp counselor Dave in Netflix’s Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.
For anyone wondering whether they should give the Jurassic Park series a go, Camp Cretaceous has a near-perfect 92% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. On IMDB, no season of the series has an episode rated lower than a 6.1, with the majority of the Jurassic Park series’ 49 episodes being rated above 7. There are no bad seasons of the show.
Camp Cretaceous Is So Good That Netflix Released A Sequel Series In No Time
After Camp Cretaceous‘ success, Netflix released a sequel series, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, which follows a slightly older version of the Nublar Six. Set six years after the original show, the characters returned as young adults for a darker, globe-trotting adventure. Chaos Theory debuted on Netflix on May 24, 2024, just two years after Camp Cretaceous came to an end.
The sequel series has also ended, with Chaos Theory‘s fourth and final season being released on Netflix on November 20, 2025. Much like the original, the sequel series was also a hit for the streamer, with Jurassic World: Chaos Theory earning a high 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. As such, fans of the Jurassic Park franchise will not be disappointed in investing time in the Netflix shows.
