Mateta to AC Milan is OFF but will Juventus rekindle their interest?


Juventus could look to revive their interest in Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta after his move to AC Milan broke down.

It has been reported the France international had an issue with his medical which has prompted Milan to pull out of the proposed £26million deal.

It is a blow for the player, who was eager to make the move from Selhurst Park to San Siro, as well as both clubs. Milan now have little time to find another striker while Palace could end up keeping Mateta even though he has expressed a desire to leave.

There could also be a knock on effect with Palace’s bid to sign Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen now in the balance. Palace have had a £48m bid for Strand Larsen accepted by the Molineux club, who were hoping to replace the Norwegian with Adam Armstrong from Southampton.

Mateta was also wanted by Juventus prior to Milan edging ahead in the race to sign the 28-year-old, who has scored 56 goals in 186 appearances for Palace.

He was left out of the squad for yesterday’s 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest after Eagles boss Oliver Glasner claimed he was not in the “right place” mentally to play. The stalemate left Palace in 15th place in the Premier League table, nine points above the drop zone.
