Marvel To Reveal The Steve Rogers Version 1 Year After Brave New World

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Captain America #6

Nearly a year after the release of Captain America: Brave New World, Marvel is giving Steve Rogers his chance to take on the Red Hulk. Beyond the parallels to the MCU, a clash between General Ross and Rogers has been a long time coming, especially in light of brand-new reveals shedding new light on their early history.

Set in the aftermath of the One World Under Doom event, Rogers and Ross have both come to the nation of Latveria to deal with the aftermath of Doctor Doom’s defeat/absence. However, they both have very different agendas and goals that will likely lead to an all-new Captain America vs Red Hulk showdown.

Marvel Comics Is Teasing Red Hulk vs Steve Rogers’ Captain America

The brand-new Captain America #6 from Chip Zdarksy, Delio Diaz, and Frank Alpizar ends with a major tease, revealing General Ross back in action as the Red Hulk.

In the wake of Doctor Doom’s defeat, Latveria has fallen into civil war. This has prompted two key US responses, the first from Nick Fury and a newly reformed SHIELD to intervene and secure any high-tech superweapons from falling into the wrong hands.

However, the other comes from General Ross and the U.S. Army, who are determined to “stabilize” the nation and “install a proper democracy.” (Ross was notably held as Doom’s prisoner for months during One World Under Doom). While Rogers was offered to join both missions, he ultimately chose to join SHIELD.

That said, Ross arrived in Latveria as the Red Hulk, warning Rogers and his team to stay out of his way or “Hulk Smash“. Naturally, it’s quite likely we’ll soon be seeing a Captain America/Hulk clash that echoes the MCU version we saw in 2025’s Brave New World.

Captain America and General Ross’ Newly Revealed History Explained

Steve Rogers Confronts Ross About Latveria in Captain America #5

When it comes to Latveria, the tension between Rogers and Ross goes back much further than One World Under Doom, thanks to recent reveals from this new Captain America series. Shortly after being thawed from the ice and prior to his becoming an official Avenger, Rogers accepted a covert Army mission from General Ross involving Latveria and Doctor Doom’s recent rise to power.

While the operation was framed as a rescue of U.S. diplomats, the truth was far darker. In actuality, the U.S. government secretly backed Doctor Doom’s overthrow of the previous king in exchange for the promise of technology and weapons. However, they subsequently ordered the diplomats to be eliminated after Doom betrayed the US. Once Rogers discovered this and confronted Ross, Captain America chose to leave the Army and ultimately join the Avengers.

When you put Ross and Rogers’ history with Latveria and Ross’ recent captivity together, there’s no way that we’re not going to see Captain America and Red Hulk butting heads in future issues. All things considered, it should be fascinating to see how Steve Rogers fares against Ross after Sam Wilson’s Cap did it in the MCU.
