Manchester United could pursue a deal for former Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher when the transfer window reopens at the turn of the year.
The Red Devils were keen on landing Carlos Baleba from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer, but they were put off by the £115m price tag.
United eventually sought a cost-effective solution. They tried to sign Gallagher on loan from Atletico Madrid, but their offer was rejected.
Fichajes now claim that the Mancunian giants could return for Gallagher in January. A permanent bid could be made for the England international.
Gallagher has been identified as the plan B to Baleba, considering there is no guarantee that Brighton will provide a discount on their price in future.
Gallagher is said to be open to a Premier League return. He needs regular playing time in the league to push for a World Cup berth with England.
The Chelsea graduate has managed only 223 minutes in seven La Liga games this season. He is no longer a guaranteed starter for Atletico.
