Manchester United are reportedly prepared to spend £52 million to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero this summer.
Romero has been a key player for the north London giants, but he is expected to head for the exit door regardless of their league status next term.
Spurs are just one point ahead of 18th-placed West Ham United and face a genuine prospect of dropping down to the Championship.
Hence, there could be a massive exit spree in the summer and Romero is one of those, who is expected to head out for a bigger challenge.
Atletico Madrid are keen on landing the highly-rated centre-back, but they are set to face fierce competition from Man United in the race.
United could be prepared to pay around £52 million for the 27-year-old, who is open to joining a Premier League rival next season.
Liverpool have also been linked with his services in the past, but they are focused on a deal for his teammate Micky Van de Ven instead.
