Preview for Man United v West Ham

Manchester United will look to strengthen their European claims and record back-to-back wins when they take on struggling West Ham tomorrow.

Ruben Amorim’s men were woeful on their last appearance at Old Trafford, going down 1-0 to 10-man Everton last Monday but responded superbly at the weekend, coming back from a goal down to win 2-1 at Crystal Palace.

The challenge, as ever for United, is finding some consistency and the visit of the Hammers provides an excellent opportunity to get another three points on the board.

A win tomorrow ought to see United move close to the top four and offer further hope that Amorim is starting to make a positive impact after a difficult first year at Old Trafford.

West Ham will hope for a similar impact from Nuno Espírito Santo, albeit they don’t have time to waste.

Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at home to Liverpool was a blow given it came on the back of wins over Newcastle and Burnley and a decent point at Bournemouth – although they did squander a two-goal lead at the Vitality Stadium.

They came into the midweek round in 17th place and in desperate need of points to climb away from danger.

United are hopeful forward Matheus Cunha will be fit following a two-game lay-off.

Argentina defender Lisandro Martinez made his return after a lengthy absence by coming off the bench at Palace and is likely to be among the substitutes once again.

Harry Maguire and Benjamin Sesko remain sidelined. Captain Bruno Fernandes is expected to be fit after suffering a late knock at the weekend.

West Ham will be without suspended midfielder Lucas Paqueta after he was sent off against Liverpool.

Tomas Soucek is his potential replacement with West Ham expected to employ a cautious-first approach on the road.
