Real Madrid snatched a sensational 2-1 victory over Mallorca with virtually the last kick of the game, as substitute Jacobo Ramon netted a historic first goal for the club in stoppage time to keep the LaLiga title race alive.

Trailing at half-time and facing the prospect of surrendering the league title to Barcelona, Real Madrid were staring down the barrel.

Yet a spirited second-half fightback, led by Kylian Mbappe and capped off by Ramon’s winner, rescued their hopes, for now.

The night began in a familiar fashion for Carlo Ancelotti’s men. Despite dominating possession, it was Mallorca who struck first.

Against the run of play, Martin Valjent lashed home a left-footed finish inside the box in the 11th minute, stunning the Bernabeu into silence.

Mallorca’s game plan became clear: defend deep, frustrate, and rely on goalkeeper Dominik Roman. The 22-year-old put on a masterclass in shot-stopping during the first half, denying Jude Bellingham, Luka Modric, and Arda Guler with a string of brilliant saves.

At the break, Real Madrid had more possession, more shots, and more passes, but were behind where it mattered.

The second half saw relentless pressure from the hosts, with Federico Valverde and Guler continuing to test Roman.

Real’s persistence finally paid off in the 68th minute when Luka Modric slipped in Mbappe. The Frenchman, with 39 goals to his name already, weaved between two defenders before rifling home a low shot to equalise – his 40th goal of the campaign.

Despite the momentum shift, Mallorca weren’t done. Substitute Mateu Morey nearly stunned Madrid again, only to be denied by Thibaut Courtois. At the other end, Fran Garcia delivered a glorious cross that Gonzalo Garcia somehow failed to convert from close range.

As the match ticked into added time, five minutes were shown on the board. Real threw everything forward – even Courtois joined the attack.

Modric’s corner was cleared, but Dani Garcia floated the ball back into the area. Jesus Vallejo rose highest to nod it down, and there was Jacobo Ramon, unmarked and alert, hooking the ball over Roman for the match-winner.

The final whistle blew seconds later, confirming a 2-1 win that kept Barcelona from mathematically clinching the title.

Real Madrid’s title dream lives on, though they know it will require perfection and perhaps help elsewhere.
