Liverpool have completed the signing of 23-year-old forward Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for an initial fee of £69m, subject to international clearance.
Ekitike, Frankfurt’s top-scorer last season, successfully completed a medical and has agreed personal terms with the Reds. He will fly out to Hong Kong to join his new teammates on their pre-season tour of Asia later this week.
It is believed the deal could eventually rise to £79m in add-ons.
The arrival of the France U21 international pushes Liverpool’s spending past £250m this summer. He becomes the latest addition to Arne Slot’s squad, following the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Florian Wirtz – who moved to Anfield for a for a potential British record £116m.
“Hugo has developed tremendously in his one and a half years with us and has been a true asset to our team and the entire club both on and off the pitch,” Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche said following the player’s departure.
“We are delighted that he can now take the next step – a step he has earned through his performances with us.”
Ekitike found the net 26 goals in 64 appearances for the German side and was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for 2024/25.
He began his professional journey in France with Stade de Reims, before turning out 33 times for Paris Saint-Germain and claiming a Ligue 1 winner’s medal.
