Lee Cronin’s The Mummy First Reactions Are In

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is gearing up to be the scariest movie of 2026.

Directed and written by Cronin, the movie is also being produced by horror legend James Wan and Jason Blum, and is guaranteed to make audiences hide behind their popcorn. The Mummy (which Brendan Fraser is apparently not in, according to Blumhouse) follows a journalist as her young daughter suddenly goes missing. Eight years later, the family is shocked when she returns, but the joy quickly turns into a nightmare.

First reactions for the highly anticipated horror are already pouring in as early screeners have given some lucky people a chance to witness the 2026 horror before its theatrical release on April 17. Early reviews are quickly making people get even more excited as the horrors promised are gearing up to be some of the scariest of the year.

Courtney Howard had not one but two posts following her first watch of Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, and, as stated, it’s “gruesome and gnarly,” preparing viewers for a movie full of scary moments.

Bill Bria is clearly traumatized from his first watch of The Mummy and notes that Cronin must’ve taken inspiration from “Bring Her Back, The Omen, The Vanishing, and Braindead.”

Brandon Davis is not holding back on his review and even goes as far as to claim it’s “the most f**ked movie I’ve ever watched in a theater.”

Chris Killian states that Cronin’s movie is “the most terrifying and disgusting Mummy movie you’ll ever see,” and makes sure to note that Evil Dead Rise fans will certainly enjoy this.

Who Let Us Out ensures eager audiences that Cronin’s upcoming flick is “not what you would expect from a mummy movie,” so make sure to go into it knowing that this version is “terrifying and gross.”

Matt Bedrosian doesn’t just focus on the horror but also explains that the movie delves into family life while also referencing that The Mummy contains “demons older than the devil.”

Not everyone is a fan of the latest horror, as Edgar Ortega states that Cronin’s attempt is “way too long,” and clearly wasn’t impressed by The Mummy.

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is set to release in theaters on April 17.
