Kompany insists Bayern will go ´full throttle´ after Klassiker victory

Vincent Kompany insisted that his Bayern Munich side will go “full throttle” in the Bundesliga title race after their victory over Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern won 3-2 at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday courtesy of Joshua Kimmich’s late winner, while Harry Kane also scored a brace for the Bavarian giants, who had to come from behind.

They are now 11 points clear at the Bundesliga summit with 10 games to go, with the Opta supercomputer giving them a 99.9% chance of lifting the trophy in May.

Despite Bayern’s healthy lead over Dortmund, Kompany has no intention of resting on his laurels.

“We now have an 11-point lead. We’ve scored 88 goals. Why stop now? We’re going full throttle,” said the Belgian coach.

“The game was a great advert for the Bundesliga. The momentum, the intensity, the scoreline, the 80,000 spectators. It was simply brilliant.

“Dortmund really wanted to take the opportunity; you could feel that throughout the match. That’s understandable.

“But we didn’t just sit back and absorb pressure; we always tried to create our moments, and in my opinion, they were good moments. Both teams had the desire to push forward.”

Kane has now scored multiple goals in his fourth Bundesliga match in a row – a joint Bundesliga record, previously only achieved by Dortmund’s Lothar Emmerich in 1967 and Wolfsburg’s Tomislav Maric in 2001.

The English striker now has 30 league goals to his name this season, and he was delighted with Bayern’s victory over their rivals.

“It’s a huge win for us in this title race,” said Kane.

“We managed to come back from behind, we played our game and knew they would be tired after playing midweek.

“We never gave up. It’s really special to come and win here. We can be proud of this win.”
