Jimmy Kimmel's Memorable Return: Opening Monologue After Suspension

Jimmy Kimmel is back on live television and wastes no time by delivering an intriguing opening monologue. Kimmel’s long-running show was taken off the air “indefinitely” following divisive comments he made related to the death of Charlie Kirk, but ABC later reversed their decision.

Kimmel opened his show with a humorous montage of clips of reporters who have been talking about for the past 6 days. While his monologue began comedically, it quickly became very emotional and sentimental. The host teared up as he proceeded to thank all of his colleagues and fans who stood up for him. He even thanks all the conservatives who dislike him for their words of support.

Kimmel spoke about how he heard from a ton of people from his past, all offering support. He also heard from strangers all around the world, some even offered him jobs.

I’ve heard from a lot of people over the past six days. I’ve heard from all the people in the world. Everyone I’ve met reached out 10 or 11 times. Weird Characters from my past. The guy who fired me from my first radio job in Seattle.

I heard from late-night hosts in other countries, from Ireland and from Germany. The guy in Germany offered me a job. Can you imagine this country has become so authoritarian, the Germans are like, “Come here!”

Along with thanking his fans, the late-night host also expressed his gratitude towards the people who didn’t support his thoughts and beliefs but stood up for his right to free speech.

Most of all, I want to thank the people who don’t support my show and what I believe, but support my right to share those beliefs anyway.

Kimmel also clarified his comment about Charlie Kirk’s death. He made it perfectly clear that he was not attacking anyone in either political party.

I don’t think the murderer who shot Charlie Kirk represents anyone. This was a sick person who believed violence was a solution, but it isn’t.

I am the person who gets a lot of threats. I get many ugly and scary threats against my life, my wife, my kids, my co-workers, because of what I choose to say. And I know those threats don’t come from the kind of people on the right who I know and love, so that’s what I wanted to say on that subject.

Kimmel condemned President Trump for his attacks on journalists and the people who work with them.

The President of the United States made it very clear that he wants to see me and the hundreds of people who work here fired from our jobs. Our leader celebrates Americans losing their livelihoods because he can’t take a joke. He was somehow able to squeeze Colbert out of CBS.

Then he turned his sights on me, and now he’s openly rooting for ABC to fire Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers and the hundreds of Americans who work for their shows who don’t make millions of dollars. And I hope that if that happens, or if there’s even any hint of that happening, you will be ten times as loud as you were this week.

What Kimmel’s Return Means For Free Speech

Kimmel’s touching monologue really highlighted his appreciation not just for his supporters but anyone who is willing to stand up for free speech. He even thanked the conservatives who disliked him, such as Rand Paul, Candace Owens, and even his “good friend” Ted Cruz. This suggests that he truly was not trying to attack conservatives or any political party at all.

Disney’s decision to bring back Jimmy Kimmel Live! shows a lot of growth. It gives Americans hope that their voices can make a difference and will encourage everyone to speak up when something isn’t right.
