Andree Jeglertz was delighted to see his Manchester City players enjoy themselves as he described Saturday’s 3-0 win over Manchester United as one of their best performances this season.

City inched closer to capturing the Women’s Super League title with a dominant success over their neighbours at Old Trafford, where they could have won by a greater margin.

Vivianne Miedema scored two headers in the space of two first-half minutes to put City in command, with Kerstin Casparij adding their third goal early in the second half.

Lauren Hemp also hit the crossbar from distance and Khadija Shaw went close on two occasions, with City keeping United penned back in their own territory for long periods.

They outshot United by 15 to 10 and won the expected goals (xG) battle by 2.03 to 0.45, while also enjoying a 62.4% possession share and completing 496 passes to United’s 282.

Jeglertz’s team now need a maximum of five points from their remaining three games to capture the title, but he was most impressed by the quality of City’s performance.

“The first half, I don’t know if it’s the best half, but it’s one of the best this season,” Jeglertz told the City website.

“Being part of it, I definitely enjoyed it. I’m not saying it was relaxed, but I felt we had control of the game and the players were having enjoyment and finding solutions to things. It was a fantastic game.”

City were also able to welcome Ayaka Yamashita, Yui Hasegawa, Aoba Fujino and Mary Fowler back from the Asia Cup, with the Japan trio starting and the Australia midfielder coming off the bench in the second half.

“It’s a fantastic luxury to have that depth and it’ll be important for us for the rest of this season because we’ve had some injuries,” Jeglertz added.

“We’ve had players at the Asian Cup also and they have stepped up. It was difficult to choose the lineup but that’s good for the players, they challenge each other in each session.

“If you have a challenge in each session, it means my job will be tougher, but I can also get Kerolin in the game, she can be a gamechanger, Mary Fowler, just look at the bench, they can affect the game. It’s crucial to have that.”
