Pathan showered high praise on young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal following his commanding performance on Day 1 of the second Test. Jaiswal, who remained unbeaten on 173 off 253 balls, once again showcased his remarkable consistency and hunger for big scores. Impressed by the southpaw’s dominance, Pathan took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Yet another big score from Yashasvi Jaiswal. This guy is best left handed opener in test cricket at the moment. Numbers suggest that.”

Pathan’s statement reflects what many cricket fans and experts have begun to believe — that Jaiswal, at just 23 years of age, has become one of the most dependable openers in world cricket, particularly in the red-ball format.

Jaiswal’s unbeaten knock puts India in command

India ended Day 1 on a strong note, posting 318/2 after being asked to bat first. Jaiswal was the star of the day, playing a flawless innings marked by patience, timing, and calculated aggression. His unbeaten 173 included 22 boundaries, and he showed remarkable composure against both pace and spin. Partnering with fellow batters KL Rahul and Shubman Gill, Jaiswal ensured India maintained control throughout the day’s play.

With India already past the 300-run mark on the opening day, Jaiswal’s presence at the crease gives the team an excellent opportunity to build a massive first-innings total. If he continues his form on Day 2, a double century could well be on the cards.
