Demon Slayer‘s long-awaited Infinity Castle movie is finally out, kicking off a trilogy of films that adapt the final battle of the manga. But with a significant portion of the story still left to cover, exactly how many chapters does this first movie manage to adapt?
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has been hotly anticipated. The Infinity Castle arc in the manga begins with chapter #140, and more or less goes until the story ends in chapter #205. That means there are 66 chapters left to adapt (including #140 itself), and three movies, so one would expect each movie to cover about 22 chapters. That’s not actually how many chapters were adapted into Infinity Castle part 1, however.
How Many Chapters Did Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 Cover?
The Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle movie goes all the way to the end of the Tanjiro and Giyu versus Akaza battle, which is finally resolved at the start of chapter #157. While some other fights are featured, this one makes up the main driving force of the film, and as such, its finale represents where the first movie ends.
That means that Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle part 1 actually only covered 18 chapters, not the full 22 that most fans expected. This may pose an issue for parts 2 and 3, as Infinity Castle part 1 was already quite a long movie at 2.5 hours. It means that the later installments of the trilogy have teh potential to be 3 hours, or even longer.
One solution would be to cut content. The Infinity Castle part 1 film added a fairly significant amount of original content that was not in the manga, but it seems like the studio, ufotable, is not all that interested in cutting any content if they can avoid it, and many fans are glad of that.
How Much Will Infinity Castle Part 2 Adapt?
Looking ahead, it seems likely that Infinity Castle part 2 will pick up immediately after the end of part 1, beginning with the continuation of the battle between Kanao and Doma, where Insokue will join in. This includes several key fights between the Demon Slayer Corps and the remaining Upper Rank demons. Judging by pacing and the previous movie’s approach, part 2 could feasibly cover chapters #157 through around #180. This would include the climactic battle with Mitsuri Kanroji and Obanai Iguro versus Nakime, giving part 2 enough content for a 2.5–3 hour film without feeling rushed.
Of course, ufotable is known for adding original content and cinematic flair, so part 2 may expand certain sequences like the Muichiro Tokito, Genya Shinazugawa, Sanemi Shinazugawa, and Gyomei Himejima versus Kokushibo battle beyond the manga to heighten emotional stakes or visual spectacle. Fans can expect detailed choreography, dramatic cinematography, and the same level of animation quality that made Infinity Castle Part 1 such a global hit.
With Infinity Castle part 1 already out worldwide and acclaimed for its stunning visuals, part 2 is shaping up to continue the story’s epic finale, keeping fans eagerly anticipating how the Demon Slayer saga will conclude.
