IND vs WI [WATCH]: Nitish Kumar Reddy pulls off a brilliant flying catch to get rid of Tagenarine Chanderpaul on Day 3 of the first Test

India have cemented their dominance over the West Indies in the first Test at Ahmedabad, with a commanding all-round display highlighted by a jaw-dropping catch from Nitish Kumar Reddy on Day 3. The opening contest of the two-match Test series, which began on October 2, 2025, has seen India assert control at every juncture, pushing the visiting side to the brink with sharp bowling, marathon batting, and electric fielding at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Nitish Kumar Reddy’s spectacular grab removes Tagenarine Chanderpaul

Day 3 featured one of the most breathtaking moments of the match as Reddy produced a sensational catch that epitomized India’s intensity in the field. In the seventh over of the West Indies’ second innings, Mohammed Siraj banged in a short delivery at Tagenarine Chanderpaul. The left-handed opener shaped up confidently to pull but could only manage a firm connection square. Flying to his left at square leg, Reddy threw himself full-length, hanging suspended in midair as he grasped a low, stinging chance, parallel to the turf. Landing with the ball securely in hand, Reddy ensured the ball didn’t bobble out—a feat greeted by raucous applause from teammates and fans alike.

Siraj’s delight was matched only by the admiration for Reddy’s acrobatics, as Chanderpaul departed for just 8 (23 balls), continuing his run of low scores in the series. The early strike left West Indies tottering at 12/1, and India’s relentless approach reinforced their authority in this encounter.

India nears easy victory in dominant fashion

India’s grip on the Test has only tightened since that pivotal wicket. After dismissing West Indies for a modest 162 in their first innings—thanks to a four-wicket haul from Siraj and three from Bumrah—India’s batters amassed a mammoth 448/5 declared. KL Rahul’s patient 100 and Dhruv Jurel’s commanding 125 were the backbone of the innings, while Ravindra Jadeja’s unbeaten 104 provided the late impetus. The hosts built a mammoth 286-run lead, forcing West Indies to fight merely for pride in the second essay.

Ravindra Jadeja made further inroads by removing openers John Campbell and Brandon King, while Siraj and the rest of the Indian attack kept unyielding pressure on the visitors. The match flow demonstrated India’s clinical planning and depth across departments—from swing bowling and aggressive spin, to sharp catching and disciplined batting orders, every facet clicked in unison.
