I Think Taylor Frankie Paul’s Mom Liann Is The Villain In Her Life

The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives season 2 showed more of Taylor Frankie Paul’s relationship with her mother, Liann May, and while I often understand where she’s coming from with her criticisms of her daughter’s behavior, I think she’s becoming too much of a villain in Taylor’s life. Before I start talking about the things that bother me about Liann, I think it’s important to establish what’s been happening on The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives season 2. Like I said, I understand where Liann is coming from in her criticisms of Taylor, but things have gotten bleak on screen.

Taylor, a TikTok influencer who’s one of the founders of the Utah-based group called MomTok, has made some questionable decisions throughout her time on The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives. A Mormon ex-wife herself, Taylor’s relationship with her ex-husband ended before her time on the show began. By the time she was starring on TSLOMW, Taylor was involved with Dakota Mortensen, which led to her pregnancy throughout the first season. Taylor’s relationship with Dakota was rocky, and Liann didn’t hold back on how she felt about her daughter’s tough relationship. Sometimes, I think Liann’s being a bit harsh with Taylor.

Liann Has A Tough Time Letting Taylor’s Faults Go

She Reminds Taylor Of What She’s Done Wrong

As a person with faults like everyone else, watching Liann harp on Taylor’s faults throughout the first season of the series was incredibly tough. Throughout her relationship with Dakota, which Taylor seemed to feel betrayed within nearly every day, it was clear that Liann wasn’t sure why her daughter was refusing to give Dakota a shot. Despite knowing that Taylor’s reservations about Dakota were massive, Liann had a hard time accepting the idea that she didn’t want to be with him because she was pregnant with his child. Though Liann understood Dakota’s faults, she continually pointed out Taylor’s issues, instead.

While Taylor has plenty of issues of her own, ignoring Dakota’s faults enough to advise that Taylor continue to be with him was confusing to me as a viewers. It’s so clear from the outside that even if Dakota was telling the truth about his relationship with Jenna Jarvis, Taylor was never truly going to trust him after beginning to unravel his lies. While she likely understood that truth within herself, her pregnancy made everything more insurmountable. What Taylor needed in that time was support, but Liann instead continually pushed her daughter to make a decision she wasn’t ready for.

Liann’s Lack Of Support For Taylor Is Hard To Watch

She’s Rough On Her Daughter Despite Progress

Although The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives season 2 features Taylor in a different light, Liann seems like she’s even quicker to withhold emotional support when it comes to her daughter’s decisions. While Liann has a point in sharing her unfiltered thoughts on Taylor’s life, it’s clear that Taylor has some issues to work through, which means emotional support would help. Often talking about the issues in her past that have pushed her to behave in difficult ways or fear relationships, Taylor seems like she knows what works. Liann trusting her daughter’s judgment would be a major vote of confidence.

Liann’s Slowly Become A Villain In Taylor’s Life

It’s Not Intentional, But It’s Difficult

Though Liann appears to have a tough time with the choices her daughter makes, it’s clear that she doesn’t have any issue telling Taylor about the problems she has with the way she lives. Liann constantly tells Taylor that she wishes she’d have thought about a situation more thoroughly, but it doesn’t necessarily help for Taylor to hear someone implying she’s made poor decisions rather than giving her advice or support. Instead, Liann’s becoming a villain in her daughter’s life, pushing her to make decisions she’s not prepared for or stay in relationships she feels unsafe in.

While I’m hoping things change between Liann and Taylor, I’m also understanding of the dynamic they seem to share on The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives. Liann may not be a genuine reality TV villain, but she could become the villain in Taylor’s life. Sadly, Liann’s behavior isn’t uncommon, but the chance to see it play back on screen is a unique opportunity that Taylor’s mother has to understand and possibly change her course.
