I feel at home at Barcelona

Marcus Rashford claimed he was “going to enjoy playing here” after completing a season-long loan move to Barcelona.

The 27-year-old had been frozen out at Manchester United after not fitting into the plans of Ruben Amorim and spent the second half of last season at Aston Villa, for whom he scored four goals in 17 games.

A summer reconciliation at Old Trafford always looked a distant prospect with reports suggesting Barca was his preferred destination to get his career back on track.

And with the Catalan giants’ financial problems meaning they were on the look-out for quality players without sky-high prices, it swiftly became a perfect arrangement for all three parties.

Barcelona do have the option to make the move permanent next summer for an undisclosed sum.

Cut-price deal perfect for Barcelona

The short-term deal provides Rashford with the perfect opportunity to play for another of the world’s biggest clubs and also stake his claim for a place in the England squad for the 2026 World Cup.

He said: “I’m very excited, I think it’s a club that every player wants to play for. They have made me feel at home in these first hours, everyone has made me feel very comfortable.

“I’ve always liked watching good football. I think I’m going to enjoy playing here. It’s a family club, where the great players play.”

Barca won the Spanish league and cup double last year under Hansi Flick and Rashford claims working for the German was another factor in his desire to join.

He added: “The conversations I had with him were very positive. He has proven to be one of the top coaches. He took a young team to such a successful season and has returned to pre-season wanting more.

“As a new player I really appreciate the affection that the fans are giving me. I feel at home.”

Rashford, who made 426 appearances for United, scoring 138 goals, has been handed the number 14 shirt and will become the first British player to represent the Blaugarana since Gary Lineker in 1989.

He hopes his parent club thrive this season under Amorim but couldn’t hide his delight at having the chance to move on.

“Manchester United are in a period of change,” he said. “Manchester is a very important part of my life. Things didn’t go the way I wanted lately, but now I’m where I wanted to be.

“I have taken the step I wanted and I wish you [United] all the best. I hope they succeed and I hope to enjoy it here.”

I’m happy and healthy- Rashford

Rashford’s final months at United were largely unhappy with the player accused of a lack of effort and United desperately trying to offload his wages.

He seemed reinvigorated at Villa and he insists he is looking to build on that experience.

“I’m happy and healthy,” he said. “I can tell you that in these last six months I have improved. Things in my life have changed, not only with things from the sport itself but also with my discipline.

“I’m happy to be here and enjoy this club. It’s a different country, with different clubs and I’m prepared for this new experience.”
