Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s Putrified Ducts are a useful area to visit in Act 2, but they can be a bit tricky to find and navigate. You’ll likely pass by a convenient entry point to the ducts relatively early in your exploration, but until you get the Faydown Cloak and gain the double jump ability, it won’t be of much use to you.
If you’re looking to access the entirety of the Putrified Ducts, you’ll want to unlock double jump by ascending Mount Fay before returning to the Choral Chambers. Alternatively, you can enter the Putrified Ducts through Bilewater, although you won’t get access to the entire area, and you’ll have to fight Groal the Great along the way.
How To Reach The Putrified Ducts
Head toward the Putrified Ducts by jumping up from the long eastern hallway of Choral Chambers. You can access this area quickly from the benches in either the Cogwork Core or Songclave. Break the vines at the top of the area to enter the Memorium area. Head right immediately to rest at a bench.
Head to the left from here to rest at a bench. To the right of this Bench, attack the wall and break vines to continue to the right. Continuing to the right, you’ll face a large enemy, but you can jump over it if you like and keep moving. You’ll arrive at a model of the citadel, where you can spend 70 rosaries to access an area map.
This room doesn’t look like it has another exit, but the frayed curtains on the right side of the ceiling are hiding the way. Double jump up behind the curtains to reach a balcony, then jump off and run across the bridge. You’ll have to do a bit of tricky double jumping to ascend the wall here, but once you get the hang of it, you can reach the higher section of the wall and break it to access a tunnel into the Putrified Ducts.
Putrified Ducts Complete Map & Guide
In the Putrified Ducts, you’ll enter a long chamber full of hazards. Make your way across to access a Bellway station and bench on your right. The bench costs 60 rosaries, while the Bellway station costs 80.
Head back out to the left from this area and drop down to exit on your left again. Continue to the left to the end of the passage, then allow the vine monster to drag you up to the next level. Move to your right to find the map of the Putrified Ducts.
The other bench in the Putrified Ducts area can be found by continuing downward and breaking some walls to exit to the left again. At the bottom of the large chamber here, you’ll find a home with the Huntress inside. You can get a quest from her to earn the Longclaw tool and also rest on a makeshift bench.
Your second priority in the Putrified Ducts should be finding the Apostate Key, which you’ll need to access parts of the Slab that are otherwise locked off. Exit the Huntress’s home and head to the upper left corner of the chamber (you’ll need to move right first to work your way up). You can pick it up here.
The other main attraction in the Putrified Ducts is Fleatopia. Fleatopia can be found further right in the Putrified Ducts in the area designated as Pale Lake. This is the final location for the Flea Caravan to move, so you’ll want to check it out if you’re attempting to complete the flea quests.
You’ll need to return a total of 20 fleas before the caravan will move to this area. Once you return all 30 found in the game, you’ll also get access to the Flea Games, which will offer you some additional rewards.
You can also find the NPC Vog at the top of the Putrified Ducts, marked by the Vendor location on the provided map. Vog will sell you maps of lost fleas, making it significantly easier to complete the flea quests.
Finally, once you’ve unlocked Act 3, you can use the Silk Soar ability to access an area above the Pale Lake. Here, you’ll be able to start the Passing of the Age quest for some proper late-game content.
Thoroughly exploring the Putrified Ducts will also net you some more basic rewards like Craftmetal, rosaries, and more. It’s an area with some challenging enemies and environmental hazards, so reaching every nook and cranny isn’t a challenge to take lightly. You can also get the Wreath of Purity, a tool that’s useful in swampy areas to take care of the Muckmaggots issue. This can be found in a room to the right above the central chamber in Putrified Ducts.
Once you’ve got the Faydown Cloak, though, it’s worth at least dropping by to get the Longclaw tool and the Apostate Key, if nothing else. It’s easy to miss the Putrified Ducts when playing Hollow Knight: Silksong, but no playthrough is truly complete without them.
