Hogwarts Legacy Fans Campaign To “Save” Sequel Following Official Announcement

Back in 2024, Warner Bros. Games announced that the hit Harry Potter-inspired RPG, Hogwarts Legacy, would be receiving a sequel with developer Avalanche Software back at the helm. With the first game meeting critical acclaim and even going on to become the best-selling game of 2023, the news of a sequel came as no surprise, but since its announcement, details surrounding the project have remained scarce, even when Warner Bros. found itself in a major acquisition deal.

As such, we know next to nothing about the Hogwarts Legacy sequel, but one 2025 job listing still has fans reeling as it suggests Hogwarts Legacy 2 could be a live-service title.

Does Hogwarts Legacy 2 Need Saving?

Despite Hogwarts Legacy offering us a magical single-player RPG experience, it seems as though Warner Bros. has bigger plans for its sequel. This comes after a job listing posted on the Warner Bros. website back in December 2025 revealed that it was looking for a Senior Software Engineer for a “new online multiplayer RPG.” As we are currently unaware of Avalanche Software working on any other title, this could only mean that the job listing is referring to Hogwarts Legacy 2. However, as you can expect, the addition of the words “online” and “multiplayer” has left some fans feeling worried, especially as live-service titles such as Concord and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League have notoriously had bad luck in recent years.

Additionally, with Hogwarts Legacy finding success as a single-player title, it seems strange that Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. want to mix up an integral part of the gameplay experience. Although many of us would want the opportunity to run around Hogwarts with friends, there is a fine line between a multiplayer mode and a live-service experience with potential microtransactions.

Gamers Just Want A Single-Player Hogwarts Legacy Sequel

Following the news of a potential live-service Hogwarts Legacy title, many fans did not receive the news well, with some even heading to Change.org to set up a petition titled “Stop Hogwarts Legacy 2 from being a Live Service.” With over 14,000 signatures under its belt, it seems as though the sentiment is being shared. “Live services are a plague on the industry that is hated by many players and developers who don’t want their games ruined by greedy executives who want to extract as much money as possible,” the petition description reads. “What makes Hogwarts Legacy unique and something people want to play is the fact it’s a single-player game with no microtransactions. By making this game a live service, the probability of it failing is very high and all the investment put into the game would lead to support ending, and it’s shutting down and many talented developers wasting their time developing a game just to be laid off.”

It is worth noting that there is no official confirmation of Hogwarts Legacy 2 being a live-service game. As mentioned, this news came from a discovered job listing, and at the time of writing, we still know next to nothing about the highly anticipated sequel. For now, only time will tell to see if petitions like this will need to make a return.
