Galactus’ Herald Terrax Stars in LEGO Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails

Terrax, the most vicious herald of Galactus, officially appears in Marvel’s latest Avengers project. Not only is ‘Terrax the Tamer’ the hulking evil-doer that fans know and love, but he’s pitted against a foe even Galactus has reason to fear.

After the Silver Surfer turned on Galactus to side with the Fantastic Four and Earth, the Devourer of Worlds attempted to replace him with a series of heralds. The most intimidating of the lot was Terrax – a brutal warlord chosen by Galactus for his complete lack of empathy. Charged with the Power Cosmic, Terrax gained control of rock and earth, while also wielding a powerful cosmic axe.

Despite his ferocious reputation and powers, Terrax rarely gets included in Marvel adaptations. That’s why Avengers fans will be thrilled to see him included in new two-part animated adventure Lego Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails, streaming now on Disney+.

Terrax appears at a meeting of villains when they are assaulted by Santa Claus, who has come to take down every name on his ‘naughty’ list at once.

Terrax is shown in a Lego-fied version of his classic comic design, including his granite skin, gigantic epaulets and craggy beard. The only downside is that his gigantic cosmic axe isn’t shown, however he’s also the only villain whose defeat by Santa isn’t shown on-screen.

Terrax is a good fit for Santa’s naughty list, since he’s one of the most evil beings in the galaxy. Terrax quickly proved too psychopathic for Galactus’ purposes and was turned loose on the galaxy, clashing with heroes including the Guardians of the Galaxy and Illuminati. The villain also played a major role in the run-up to 2015’s Secret Wars event, becoming a member of Thanos’ planet-destroying Cabal.

Santa beating up Marvel’s villain may seem far-fetched, but it’s in line with his comic lore power level. In Marvel lore, Santa Claus was created by a concentration of mythic energy, becoming essentially omnipotent. However, there may be another Santa – an Omega-level mutant who used their reality-warping powers to transform into Father Christmas.

Whatever the full truth, Marvel’s Santa Claus officially registers as an Omega-level mutant – the same power level as the Phoenix or Magneto (who also gets a cameo in Strange Tails, battling the Avengers alongside his Brotherhood.)

If anyone can walk into a room containing Thanos, Terrax and a gaggle of Marvel’s other greatest villains and walk out alive, it’s Santa – a one-man superhuman powerhouse the Avengers should probably consider recruiting, and yet another reason to check out Lego Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails.
