Fans erupt as Smriti Mandhana’s ton goes in vain after Beth Mooney’s hundred guides Australia to series-clinching win in 3rd WODI

The third and final ODI between India Women and Australia Women at the Arun Jaitley Stadium turned into a run-fest that kept fans glued to their seats. Australia posted a mammoth total courtesy of Beth Mooney’s stunning hundred, while India’s reply was headlined by a blistering century from Smriti Mandhana. In the end, however, Australia held their nerve to secure a 43-run win and clinch the series 2-1.

Australia post mammoth total after Beth Mooney’s heroics

Australia Women, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, piled on a colossal 412 in 47.5 overs. Alyssa Healy provided a flying start with 30 runs off 18 balls before Georgia Voll (81 off 68) and Ellyse Perry (68 off 72) consolidated the innings. The star of the show was Mooney, who played one of the most destructive knocks in women’s ODI cricket, smashing 138 runs off just 75 deliveries with 23 boundaries and a six. Her partnership with Ashleigh Gardner (39 off 24) ensured India’s bowlers remained under pressure throughout.

India’s bowling attack found it hard to contain the flow of runs, with Arundhati Reddy (3/86) and Deepti Sharma (2/75) providing some breakthroughs but conceding heavily. Radha Yadav and Kranti Goud also struggled, allowing Australia to build momentum and finish with a daunting total.

Smriti Mandhana’s stunning hundred goes in vain

Chasing 413, India Women needed a blazing start, and Mandhana delivered in style. The left-handed opener tore into the Australian bowlers with a breathtaking 125 off 63 balls, featuring 17 fours and 5 sixes. Her aggressive approach gave the hosts real hope and electrified the crowd at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur chipped in with 52 off 35 balls, while Deepti anchored the middle overs with a fighting 72 off 58. Together, they kept India in the hunt and reduced the margin significantly. However, quick wickets at crucial stages derailed the momentum, with Harleen Deol, Richa Ghosh, and Radha failing to build on their starts.

Despite Mandhana’s heroics, Australia’s bowlers remained disciplined under pressure. Kim Garth (3/69) struck key blows, including the wicket of Mandhana, while Megan Schutt (2/53) provided control with the new ball. Gardner, Georgia Wareham, and Tahlia McGrath chipped in with a wicket each, ensuring India’s chase never fully materialized.

Rana’s 35 and contributions from the tail added some runs, but India were bowled out for 369 in 47 overs, falling 43 runs short of the target. With this result, Australia Women clinched the series 2-1. They won the first ODI by 8 wickets, while India had staged a comeback in the second ODI with a 102-run victory. The decider proved to be a fitting finale, with both sides delivering entertaining performances.
