Many have drawn unfair comparisons between Fallout and an acclaimed Apple TV+ sci-fi show, but Fallout season 2’s story update suggests that these comparisons will finally end.
Since video game adaptations have always had a questionable reputation, not much was initially expected from Prime Video’s take on the Fallout games. Fortunately, the TV adaptation defied expectations and proved that we’re living in an incredible era for sci-fi, where even hard-to-adapt game adaptations can get worthy small-screen treatments.
Despite achieving immense acclaim, though, Prime Video’s Fallout has often been compared with an Apple TV+ sci-fi show. This comparison is not too surprising because many story parallels exist between the two. After the upcoming installments of both shows, however, it seems likely these comparisons will finally end.
Silo & Fallout Share Many Narrative Overlaps
When it comes to the overarching tone, Silo and Fallout are significantly different. While Silo is more serious and adopts a darker color palette, Fallout has hints of comedy and seems more visually colorful. However, both shows have the exact same setting. They initially unfold in enclosed underground structures in which humans have been living for generations after an apocalyptic event.
The people living in the controlled underground societies in both shows are told half-truths about the world on the surface. While Silo‘s characters believe the outside world is toxic, the ones in Fallout are led to think they represent the absolute best of humanity. The truth about the outside world in both shows eventually turns out to be far more complex.
Although Silo has yet to explore the history of its world and the origins of its titular structures, it has hinted at the existence of an overarching shadowy organization, similar to Vault-Tec in Fallout. In both shows, the female protagonists, Juliette and Lucy, also leave their sheltered underground homes to find the truth about the outside world.
Even from a thematic standpoint, both sci-fi TV shows dabble with themes surrounding survival, class divides, rebellion, and the dire effects of war. With so many parallels between the two, it is understandable why they are often compared.
Fallout Season 2’s Confirmed Story Will Make It Even Less Like Silo
While only time will tell how Fallout season 2 will unfold, the show’s creators have confirmed that it will primarily take place in New Vegas and revolve around the pursuit of finding Lucy’s father. Owing to this, season 2 can be expected to have the outside wasteland as its primary setting, and it will also further expand its world-building by introducing creatures like the Deathclaw.
Silo season 2’s ending showed Juliette’s return to Silo 18, setting the stage for a more political drama in season 3, where Juliette and Camille Sims will likely fight for the underground town’s leadership. This suggests that, unlike Fallout season 2, Silo season 3 will keep its main story beats confined to the central underground bunker.
As Fallout will further expand its world and introduce creatures like the Deathclaw, it will become more and more fantastical compared to Silo. Silo, in contrast, will remain more realistic, focusing on power struggles, psychological drama, and the unraveling of systemic deception.
These expected story deviations in both shows will ensure that they develop their own unique identities, which will likely prevent viewers from comparing them.

Both Shows’ Upcoming Seasons May Still Have Some Intriguing Parallels
Even though both shows will become significantly different as their upcoming installments progress, they will still have some glaring parallels. For instance, both will involve a major story thread that will reveal how a few individuals were cryogenically preserved through cryostasis, only to be periodically woken up to serve as leaders of the overarching power structures.
While Fallout season 2 is scheduled to be released on Prime Video on December 17, 2025, Silo season 3 is expected to come out in 2026.
While delving deeper into the histories of their worlds, Silo and Fallout will also reveal how the apocalypse ties into a nuclear event that was driven by deception and lies. Once the overarching forces with their “hands on the wheel“ are revealed in both Fallout and Apple TV+’s Silo, viewers will also notice how both shows are about the long-term consequences of the elite maintaining ideological purity through immoral means.
