ENG vs IND [WATCH]: Ravindra Jadeja and Brydon Carse collide mid-pitch in Lord’s Test; Ben Stokes steps in to defuse tension

The third Test between England and India at Lord’s had already been simmering with tension, from animated send-offs to sharp on-field exchanges. But late on Day 5, it nearly boiled over. In a charged atmosphere, an unexpected mid-pitch collision between India’s Ravindra Jadeja and England pacer Brydon Carse threatened to escalate into something more, before cooler heads prevailed.

The moment unfolded during India’s run chase of 193,  a tricky target in deteriorating conditions. Carse bowled a short-of-a-length delivery outside off, and Jadeja, ever alert, rocked back and cut it hard through backward point. Zak Crawley flung himself at the ball near the boundary, brilliantly saving a boundary and limiting it to two runs.

But as Jadeja turned for the second run, he was still fixated on the ball’s path,  and failed to notice Carse stepping into the pitch. What followed was a sudden and accidental shoulder brush between the two players mid-run, bringing play to a halt. Carse, clearly agitated, turned around sharply and exchanged heated words with the Indian all-rounder, gesturing animatedly as he voiced his displeasure. Jadeja, caught off guard but maintaining composure, immediately raised his hand in explanation, signaling that he had been focused solely on the ball and had not seen Carse in his path.

Television replays confirmed Jadeja’s claim his eyes never left the ball from the moment of contact. The run-in appeared completely accidental. However, the intensity of the moment, compounded by the high-stakes nature of the match, made it appear more volatile than it was. Within seconds, England skipper Ben Stokes stepped in, placing himself between the two players. Stokes, who had himself been involved in the dismissal of KL Rahul earlier in the session, played the role of peacemaker and calmed tempers on both sides. The umpires kept a watchful eye, but the situation deescalated without further intervention.

England edge closer to victory as India crumble to 112/8 in tense chase at Lord’s

India’s hopes of chasing 193 in the final innings at Lord’s are hanging by a thread at lunch on Day 5, with the scoreboard reading a precarious 112 for 8. The morning began with tension thick in the air, and it was Jofra Archer who ignited England’s charge, dismissing Rishabh Pant with a stunning delivery that clipped the top of off. Rahul, India’s only batter who looked in control, fell lbw to Stokes after a sharp review, and the procession of wickets continued.

Washington Sundar fell to a sharp caught-and-bowled chance by Archer, who was bowling with fire and intent. Nitish Kumar Reddy held on briefly, but his resistance ended on 13 with Chris Woakes finishing his stay. England’s bowlers were relentless, Archer (3/41), Carse (2/21), and Stokes (2/34) shared the spoils,  hitting the perfect lengths and exploiting variable bounce. Ravindra Jadeja, unbeaten on 17, remains India’s last realistic hope, but with only Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah left in the shed, England are on the brink of sealing a famous win in this hard-fought third Test.
