A new Tulsa King star reveals how his character, Special Agent Musso’s informant relationship with Dwight is set for more contention. Taylor Sheridan’s hit crime drama debuted on Paramount+ in September 2022, breaking streaming records, and has gone on to become one of the most successful shows on the platform, and has been renewed through season 4.
Tulsa King stars Sylvester Stallone as Dwight ‘The General’ Manfredi, a famed New York City Mafia capo, who is released from prison after 25 years, and exiled to Tulsa to start a criminal enterprise. The show has featured many guest actors, and The Usual Suspects star Kevin Pollak is set to join the cast of Tulsa King season 3.
In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley for the show’s return, Pollak reflected on his character’s uneasy relationship with Dwight, and how things are set to be more complicated as the season unfolds. He discussed how Musso and Dwight have a tension, but they also enjoy giving one another a hard time. Check out his comments below:
Liam Crowley: Kevin, to go down the rabbit hole a little bit with your character here, Special Agent Musso, there’s a little bit of beef between Musso and Dwight going into this season, but like you said, there is that handler-informant relationship going on throughout season 3. How does that tension between the two characters, how does that impact the handler-informant relationship they have?
Kevin Pollak: Well, rather than being a bit dry, the relationship ends up being a little Tom and Jerry. They are adversarial, but also they love to give each other grief. I don’t know. That’s as clean of a version I have to say with that relationship.
Dana Delany: Oh, I can’t wait to see that.
Kevin Pollak: Yeah. We go at each other verbally in what ends up being a rather humorous way. Neither will give an inch.
What This Means For Dwight & Musso’s Tulsa King Relationship
Dwight is a man who’s always been true to his ideals, but recognizes the importance of alliances, even when they are uneasy. Many relationships in Tulsa King are built on the threat of mutually assured destruction, and this one feels like it will be similar. Tulsa King season 3 will likely see Musso & Dwight lean on each other heavily throughout.
Pollak’s comments reveal that the duo have an adversarial relationship, but that they also enjoy banter and taking potshots at each other. This makes sense, as Dwight is untrusting of outsiders, particularly after Stacy’s betrayal. But, despite Chickie’s death, there are still multiple threats to his empire, and Musso can help him keep on top of these.
Our Take On How This May Shape Tulsa King Season 3
Tulsa King is one of Sheridan’s best shows, and the reason for that is the dynamic between the characters, as well as the world-building, and Stallone’s central performance. Dwight is a complex character, but one who understands how empires are built, as well as recognizing how to cultivate mutually beneficial relationships.
How much of a problem Agent Musso might become for Dwight late in the game will only be understood as the season progresses. But, it’s pretty likely this relationship has an expiry date, and both men will be trying to play the other. Their interactions could be a large part of what helps make Tulsa King season 3 a success.
