ABC’s suspension of Jimmy Kimmel for his remarks regarding the recent killing of Charlie Kirk has sparked public outrage against President Donald Trump and the massive corporation. Trump is now threatening other major news networks if they broadcast anything he considers negative.
Trump spoke about how several news outlets have been giving him “wholly bad publicity”, and he claimed that all nighttime talk shows attack him. The current President of the United States explained how, because of this, they all deserve to have their license revoked.
Trump also told the reporters on Air Force One that he believed the majority of the press were against him. However, he did admit that, at the end of the day, the decision is ultimately up to FCC Chairman, Brendan Carr.
What Trump’s Warning For Journalists Means For The Future Of The Industry
Unfortunately for many major news networks, Carr is seemingly looking to help Trump cancel more journalists. The chairman heavily implied after Kimmel’s cancellation that there will be more consequences for the media if they continue to shine the president in a bad light.
While TV networks such as ABC, Fox, NBC, and more are not exactly licensed by the FCC, it does have the authority over public airways. This severely complicates things for the media, as they heavily rely on the companies that do hold a license.
Our Take on Trump’s Warning To Journalists
Everyone has a right to their own opinion, regardless of what that might be. It is inevitable for all of us to agree on every single detail, especially when it comes to politics. However, this does not mean that anyone should be silenced. I personally believe it does not matter if you’re on the right, left, or somewhere in between. You deserve to have your own voice, and that shouldn’t be taken away.
We all know it’s not fun to read something bad about yourself. And, while it’s easier said than done, sometimes you just have to shake it off and move on. Dwelling on something someone else said about you isn’t a productive use of your time. Instead, work on yourself and prove them wrong.
