Diljit Dosanjh draws India vs Pakistan cricket parallel amid restricted release of Sardaar Ji 3

Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has finally spoken about the controversy surrounding his film Sardaar Ji 3, which has faced a restricted release in India amid India-Pakistan tensions and the ongoing Asia Cup 2025.

Diljit Dosanjh clarifies timeline of Sardaar Ji 3

Addressing fans during his concert in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Diljit explained that the film was shot in February 2025, well before the Pahalgam terror attack in April.

“My film Sardaar Ji 3 was shot before the terror attack, and the match was played after it. I have many answers to give, but I’ve been quiet,” Diljit said in Punjabi. “And we have always prayed that the terrorists receive the strictest punishment.” He stressed that the movie’s timeline should not be conflated with the political situation that followed.

Diljit questions logic of cultural restrictions

Diljit also voiced his disappointment at the inconsistent approach toward cross-border interactions. Highlighting how India and Pakistan continue to face each other in cricket, he questioned why his film was blocked in India. “India and Pakistan are playing cricket, but my film can’t release there. I don’t understand this logic,” he remarked, sparking applause from his audience.

Facing criticism for working with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, Diljit strongly rejected claims that he was “anti-national.” He reminded critics of his loyalty and roots. “The national media tried their best to portray me as anti-national, but Punjabis and the Sikh community could never go against the nation,” he stated. His remarks were met with loud cheers from fans, many praising his honesty and patriotism.

Sardaar Ji 3 faces restricted ban in India

Sardaar Ji 3, directed by Amar Hundal, features Neeru Bajwa, Gulshan Grover, Sapna Pabbi, and Hania Aamir alongside Diljit. The film was released internationally, including in Pakistan, but its Indian theatrical release was stalled indefinitely after protests over Aamir’s involvement. Diljit admitted the politicization of cinema was disheartening, but he reiterated his commitment to focusing on his art.

Concluding his remarks, Diljit urged fans and critics alike to avoid the “negativity and poison” that arise from such controversies. He said he had chosen silence until now despite having “many answers” for his critics, but felt it was time to clarify the facts.
