Chelsea are reportedly keen on landing Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.
The Blues suffered a huge setback over the summer as Levi Colwill picked up a serious knee injury. He has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
The club’s hierarchy decided against pursuing a replacement in the transfer market over the summer, but they are expected to search for one in January.
Araujo has now emerged as a top target, according to Football Insider.
The Blaugrana have had registration and Financial Fair Play issues with La Liga, and the situation has not improved over the past 12 months.
A big-money sale would provide some much-needed relief and Araujo could be permitted to leave if they receive a lucrative winter bid.
Araujo signed a new contract with a release clause worth €65m, but he could be permitted to leave the club for around €50m in January.
Chelsea are presently the front-runners to land his signature.
