Chelsea reportedly have the preference to sign Barcelona defender Eric Garcia in January instead of his teammate Ronald Araujo.
The Blues are likely to enter the transfer market for a new centre-back in January and they have already been linked with several names.
Araujo was recently mentioned as a target, but the Blues are unlikely to make an approach, given the Uruguayan’s high wage requirements.
As a result, they have turned their attention to Garcia, who has had a good turnaround to his career under Barcelona boss Hansi Flick.
The Spaniard’s progress has caught the eye of the Blues, who want to sign a cost-effective option to reinforce the heart of their defence.
Barcelona are not necessarily looking to sell Garcia, and they are still hopeful that he will extend his contract expiring next summer.
If he does not renew by January, the door could open for the Blues to land his signature in a cut-price deal during the winter transfer window.
