Cameroon 2-0 China: Etta Eyong and Alioum net early quickfire double

Cameroon netted two goals in the opening nine minutes to brush aside China 2-0 at AAMI Park in their FIFA Series friendly.

Karl Etta Eyong and Saidou Alioum were on target for Cameroon, with China unable to pull one back, even after Stephane Keller’s stoppage-time sending-off.

Just three minutes in, Aboubakar Nagida picked out Etta Eyong in the box, and with the first shot of the match, he flicked a low effort past Yan Juling from close range.

Konrad Nifanso Sinyam then sent a header wide in a bright Cameroon start before Alioum doubled their lead with a wonderful volley into the roof of the net.

Cameroon continued to put pressure on China’s goal without truly testing Yan, while the visitors failed to muster a shot on target before the break.

Alioum and Wei Shihao tested the goalkeepers early in the second half, while Cameroon head coach David Pagou was sent off for dissent just before the hour, as he was unhappy with one of the referee’s decisions.

China weathered Cameroon’s late pressure, but the hosts ended the game with 10 men after Keller was shown a second booking in the 91st minute for dragging down Behram Abduweli.

Data Debrief: Cameroon back on the scoresheet

Cameroon had failed to score in their last two matches – their Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final against Morocco and last week’s friendly against Australia.

However, they ensured that run came to an end on Tuesday, having 17 attempts in total (six on target) and racking up 2.09 expected goals (xG). Etta Eyong contributed 1.18 xG to that total with four shots, while Alioum had a game-high five efforts, with three of those on target.

China, by contrast, managed to get just one of their six attempts on target, and created just 0.44 xG in an underwhelming attacking display.
