Because the New York setting and 1980s timeframe are so rich, there will be numerous real issues that The Westies can dive into.
The Westies is based on a real gang and real tensions that existed in Hell’s Kitchen during that time. This historical basis will allow the upcoming MGM+ series to explore real events and elements within that specific world. This distinction from Bosch will allow Titus Welliver to do a lot with the role. While audiences trust that he can portray a hardened cop character, he will be in a completely different world from present-day Los Angeles.
