Borussia Dortmund 2-0 Augsburg: Adeyemi and Reggiani close the gap to Bayern

Borussia Dortmund closed the gap on Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich to nine points with a 2-0 win over Augsburg on Saturday.

Goals from Karim Adeyemi and Luca Reggiani enabled Nico Kovac’s side to take advantage of Bayern’s 1-1 draw at Leverkusen, putting a small amount extra pressure on the defending champions.

Dortmund took the lead after 13 minutes when Maximilian Beier’s deflected cross sat up nicely for Adeyemi to fire into the back of the net.

The crossbar twice denied Dortmund in the space of six minutes before half-time, with Beier thwarted before Adeyemi saw a powerful effort after a fluid move crash into the woodwork.

The hosts remained in complete control added to their tally in the 59th minute, with 18-year-old defender Reggiani steering Julian Ryerson’s corner home for his first senior goal.

Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen made impressive saves to keep Adeyemi and substitute Serhou Guirassy at bay as Dortmund cruised to an important three points.

Data Debrief: Dominant Dortmund come out on top

Dortmund kept up their record of scoring in every Bundesliga game this season – they have actually found the net in each of their past 34 top-flight outings, their best run since a 37-game stretch from October 2020 to September 2021.

Kovac’s side kept a league-leading 12th clean sheet of the season and limited Augsburg to just seven shots – their lowest total in a single Bundesliga match this campaign.
