Billionaires’ Bunker Dominates Global Streaming Despite Divisive Reviews

Netflix‘s new thriller series is enjoying global dominance on streaming just days after release, despite ultra-divisive reviews from critics and audiences. Netflix’s original TV shows come in all forms, with thrillers being some of the most popular for the platform in recent years. This includes American shows like The Night Agent to foreign series like Squid Game season 3.

One of the platform’s newest shows is Billionaires’ Bunker, a Spanish series co-created by Álex Pina, best known for his work on Money Heist. The series follows a group of billionaires living together in a bunker after the world above is threatened by nuclear war. Pina’s new show has been critically divisive, earning a 38% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

Now, FlixPatrol reports Billionaires’ Bunker is Number 1 worldwide on Netflix as of September 24, 2025. In addition to its larger, global dominance, the thriller show has managed to reach Number 1 in 46 countries around the world. This includes Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Thailand, and Ukraine among dozens of others where its popularity has skyrocketed.

What Billionaires’ Bunker Being A Global Success Means For The Show

Billionaires’ Bunker earning global success on Netflix is somewhat surprising given how poorly received the show has been. Not only are critics not thrilled, but neither are audiences: the show has a 57% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter and a 5.3 out of 10 on IMDb. Although the Spanish TV show has been panned critically, it’s still a success commercially.

Given the number of countries where the show has taken the top spot, it’s somehow managed to overcome its widespread critical failure. Despite critics not enjoying the series because of the cliché presentation and soap opera-style drama, it’s appealed to enough audience members around the world that the Rotten Tomatoes percentages can’t hold back its success.

Given the success of Money Heist in the past, it’s not shocking Pina’s latest series has managed to find a worldwide audience. The show might not have the same critical strength as his previous series, but it’s still proven itself engaging, dramatic, and intense enough to earn a high placement on global charts. Its imperfections haven’t hindered its success.

While it’s unclear if this means Billionaires’ Bunker has a future beyond what’s already been presented, the show has potential for more storytelling with its expansive cast of characters. The show getting so many Number 1 placements around the world signals this could just be the start of its success, which may catapult into a bigger future for the series.

All episodes of Billionaires’ Bunker are now streaming on Netflix.
