BCCI announces India A Women squads for Australia tour, Shafali Verma returns

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the India A Women squads for the upcoming multi-format tour of Australia, setting the stage for a challenging series beginning August 7. The announcement, made on Thursday (July 10), confirmed that experienced all-rounder Radha Yadav will lead the contingent. The tour, which includes three T20s, three One-Day matches, and a concluding four-day fixture, will run until August 24.

Shefali Verma, Shreyanka Patil and Titas Sadhu to make return after recovering from their injuries

A significant inclusion in the squad is opener Shafali Verma, marking her return to the one-day format. Verma, who last featured in an ODI in October 2024 against New Zealand, was subsequently dropped from the format due to a slump in form, managing only 108 runs across six ODIs last year. Although she recently returned to the T20I side for the ongoing series against England, this ‘A’ tour offers a crucial platform for the young batter to reaffirm her place in the senior squad, particularly with the home ODI World Cup looming later this year.

The squad also sees the expected returns of two players recovering from injury layoffs: Shreyanka Patil and Titas Sadhu. Patil, a spin-bowling allrounder, has faced a difficult period, sustaining injuries that began during the Women’s Asia Cup last year. Despite featuring in the subsequent T20 World Cup, a fracture sustained last month during a national bowlers’ camp ruled her out of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) earlier this year. Patil, who has been named exclusively in the T20 squad, awaits medical clearance from the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE).

Fast bowler Sadhu also makes her comeback following an undisclosed injury suffered post-WPL, which forced her to miss the tour of Sri Lanka in April and May. The leadership group will be supported by Minnu Mani, who previously captained India A in Australia and has been named Radha’s deputy.

Priya Mishra, a legspinner included in the one-day and four-day squads, is also subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI CoE.

India A Women tour of Australia: Itinerary

The tour itinerary is structured to provide varied match practice against the Australian opposition. The three T20 matches are scheduled to be held in Mackay from August 7 to August 10. The action will then shift to Brisbane for the three One-Day matches, which will take place between August 13 and August 17. The tour concludes with a four-day multi-day clash at the Allan Border Field in Queensland.
