BCCI announces India A squads for One-Day series against Australia A, Rest of India squad for Irani Cup 2025

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the India A squads for the three-match one-day series against Australia A as well as the Rest of India (ROI) squad for the upcoming Irani Cup. The announcement was made by the Senior Men’s Selection Committee on Tuesday.

Shreyas Iyer to lead India A in One-Day series against Australia A

India A will be captained by Shreyas Iyer, who returns to lead the side in Kanpur, where the matches will be staged from September 30. Meanwhile, the Irani Cup clash between Rest of India and Ranji Trophy 2024-25 champions Vidarbha will be held in Nagpur from October 1.

Shreyas Iyer opts out of Irani Cup

While Iyer has been entrusted with India A’s white-ball duties, he was not considered for selection in the Irani Cup. The 29-year-old batter recently informed the BCCI of his decision to take a six-month break from red-ball cricket.

Iyer, who underwent back surgery in the UK last year, has largely recovered but continues to face recurring spasms and stiffness during longer-format matches. His absence from the Irani Cup indicates a focused approach toward managing fitness ahead of key white-ball assignments.

The selectors have named separate squads for the first match and the following two games. While Iyer will lead across all three fixtures, Tilak Verma has been appointed vice-captain for the second and third encounters. The squads feature a mix of emerging stars and seasoned performers, reflecting BCCI’s strategy of nurturing talent for future national call-ups.
