Former Indian opener Kris Srikkanth has confidently thrown his support behind T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav to break his prolonged lean patch and deliver a crucial performance in the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan. Despite India’s overall dominance under his leadership, Suryakumar has struggled for form since mid-last year, managing an average under 20 in 21 T20Is. Citing the significance of the ‘Sunday’ fixture, Srikkanth made a precise prediction, even offering batting advice to help the star batter rediscover his explosive best against the arch-rivals in Dubai.
How many runs will Suryakumar Yadav score? Kris Srikkanth shares his prediction ahead of India vs Pakistan final
Former Indian great Srikkanth has made a highly optimistic, if superstitious, prediction regarding Suryakumar’s form reversal for the Asia Cup final, claiming the captain will finally score big. The prediction is particularly notable given Suryakumar’s persistent struggles, which include scoring only two half-centuries in 21 T20Is since becoming the permanent skipper, maintaining a batting average of under 20 in that period.
“Suryakumar Yadav is going to score big tomorrow. Tomorrow is a Sunday, which is the definition of his name. So playing on a ‘Sun’ day, Surya will definitely score tomorrow. He will score a minimum of 33, I will even give you the exact number. My only advice to him would be to avoid playing the flick down the leg side straightaway. Instead, play the first 10 balls in the V,” Srikkanth said on his Youtube channel.
The worrying decline of Suryakumar and Pakistan hoodoo ahead of Asia Cup 2025 final
Srikkanth’s backing aims to counteract the concerning trend in Suryakumar’s recent performances, especially in high-pressure clashes against Pakistan. While his career statistics remain elite, 2,669 runs in 89 T20Is at an outstanding average of 37.59 and a strike rate of 164.6, his output in the current tournament and against Pakistan has been far below par. In the ongoing Asia Cup, the captain has averaged under 24 at a strike rate of just 107.57 across five innings. His overall T20I record versus Pakistan are particularly dismal, featuring only 111 runs in seven matches at a poor average of 18.50. Though he finally produced a knock of substance against the Men in Green with a 47 unbeaten off 37 deliveries in the first meeting of the tournament, the reversal was fleeting, as he fell for a three-ball duck in the subsequent Super Fours match.
