Italian forward on Arsenal radar

Atalanta striker Mateo Retegui, who has been in sensational form since arriving at his current club from Serie A rivals Genoa, has been linked with a shock end of season move to North London side Arsenal. The 25-year-old Argentina-born forward has scored 20 goals in 22 Serie A games and has been an essential part of the club’s good recent form, but despite that, Retegui is said to be looking for a move to the Premier League at some point in the next couple of years.

Arsenal have struggled with injury worries this season, as the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli both sit on the sidelines recovering from injuries. Long term injuries to pair Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz leave the Gunners desperately short of attacking options and Retegui could be available at the end of the season for around 75 million euros, according to a report from Italy, republished by Shoot.

As the current top scorer in Serie A, the player is likely to command a decent fee should he decide to leave Atalanta. Should the forward leave, the club are believed to already have a replacement in their current squad.

Arsenal go into a crucial game against Leicester City this afternoon, with Leo Trossard as their only striking option.

The Gunners missed out on Ollie Watkins in the January transfer window, and are now desperately short of attackers.
