Arsenal are leading the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka on a free transfer at the end of the campaign, as per Bayern Insider.

The German was tipped to join the Gunners during the last transfer window. The club made an approach on deadline day after an injury sustained by Mikel Merino.

Goretzka opted to see out the season with the Bundesliga champions and he will formally leave them when his contract expires at the end of June.

The 31-year-old has his sights on playing Premier League football next term and it is claimed that Arsenal may emerge as the favourites to sign him.

The Gunners have not made a pre-contract offer to the German thus far and it is unclear whether they will return for his signature in the near future.

Goretzka has also been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, but he is unlikely to join them, particularly with their dreadful form in the Premier League.
