Apple TV’s Underappreciated Sci-Fi Series ‘Invasion’ Needs A Fourth Season

Apple TV’s Invasion is often forgotten among the many great sci-fi TV shows the streamer has to offer, and maybe that’s because it’s missing an element that would elevate it. The list of great Apple TV sci-fi shows keeps on growing, and more than any other streamer, Apple TV seems to understand the genre.

Pluribus, Foundation, For All Mankind, Silo, and more are all still getting seasons, making Apple TV the place to go for sci-fi viewing. However, that doesn’t mean the streamer’s reputation in the space is spotless. Its handling of Invasion, for instance, is frustrating, and if they were to order a fourth season, it could push the series up a level.

Invasion Is An Underrated Apple TV Sci-Fi Series

Invasion first premiered in October 2021, with season 2 coming in August 2023, and season 3 arriving in August 2025. The series is multilingual, with characters speaking in everything from Persian to English. It’s set in a near future where Earth is visited by an alien species who threaten the existence of humanity.

The invasion is seen through the eyes of an ensemble of characters all trying to make sense of these impossible events and survive what could be the end of the world. The first season did not get off to a great start, with a 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, but the next two seasons earned 64% and 67%, respectively.

Invasion is a slow burn, which may turn off some first-time viewers, and the first season will require some patience. It’s seasons 2 and 3 where the show really takes off, and while you do have to knock some points off for devoting a whole season to set-up, the next two make the wait worthwhile.

It’s likely that a lot of people probably tuned out after the first season, but they would have missed a sci-fi epic with an extraordinary scope. The show’s focus on people and not the aliens takes some getting used to but provides a unique story that will have you wondering what you would do in a similar situation.

Invasion Needs A Fourth Season To Tie Up Its Story

Frustratingly, there has been no news about Invasion season 4, despite creator Simon Kinberg sharing that he has more stories to tell if Apple TV wants them. So far, every new season of Invasion has come every two years, so there’s still some time if Apple TV wants to stick to that schedule.

Invasion really needs that fourth season. While seasons 2 and 3 were upgrades from season 1, they weren’t quite enough to elevate the series into the echelons of the best shows on the streamer. A strong fourth season, even if it’s the final one, would go a long way to confirming Invasion as a standout.
