Rogue has always stood out among Marvel’s X-Men due to her unique power. However, there are modern stories in Marvel Comics that have reshaped fans’ understanding of Anna Marie’s power. Many fans might not be familiar with these recent developments and still believe that her impressive power is defined by caution due to her uncontrollable mutant ability.

Rogue Is Best Known for Her Powerful Siphoning Abilities

Since her earliest appearances, Rogue’s mutant ability automatically activated through direct skin contact. With this power, she can absorb memories, powers, and the life force of her victims, often leaving them weakened or unconscious. Due to this, she often resorted to wearing gloves and layered clothing that ensured full skin coverage.

The extent of her ability was abundantly clear from the first moment she was introduced in 1981 in Avengers Annual #10, following her attack on Carol Danvers, Ms. Marvel, whose strength, durability, and flight permanently became part of Rogue’s abilities, with fragments of Carol’s identity existing alongside her own thoughts.

Years later, during the Uncanny Avengers era, Rogue would go on to absorb Wonder Man’s powers, making her virtually invulnerable and immensely strong. Decades since her debut, Rogue remains one of the most powerful and versatile mutants in Marvel Comics. However, while she’s most known for her siphoning abilities, there’s far more to her power.

Rogue Gained Control Over Her Powers Ages Ago

Over time and countless comics, Rogue’s mutation gradually shifted from an involuntary reaction to a controlled, regulated ability. Recent commentary from Gail Simone, the writer behind Uncanny X-Men, revealed that Rogue not only gained control of her siphoning years ago, but also retains traces of Carol Danvers and Wonder Man’s powers.

Recent comics now depict Anna Marie and her life with Remy LeBeau, better known as Gambit. While Rogue still has her absorption abilities, she now has far more control over them as compared to her early appearances and retains superhuman strength, durability, and flight. These developments cement her place as one of Marvel’s most impressive powerhouses.
