Iconic Marvel Rivals heroes Cloak and Dagger are entering a whole new era, with a stylish redesign to match. The pair have been part of Marvel lore for 43 years, but have received a major popularity boost after featuring as some of the most-played characters in the PvP shooter. Now, they’ve debuted their ultimate look for the game.
In the upcoming Cloak or Dagger, Marvel lore will jump forward ten years into the future, introducing a new status quo for Cloak and Dagger. This comes with a sleek redesign, as seen in cover art from Mike McKone, Rickie Yagaw and Tamra Bonvillain, Fan Yang, David Nakayama and Corin Howell.
The new designs give Dagger a blue jacket and gloves, as well as a white bodysuit with her iconic dagger logo. White earrings and her lightforce scar glow with energy, while a blue belt, leg holster and boots add a more militarized, ultra-prepared look. Meanwhile, Cloak is given an anchor beard and dreadlocks with gold rings, as well as galaxy-patterned body in Howell’s art.
The new series will finally see the on-again/off-again partners get married… right as their powers go haywire, making it impossible for them to exist in the same place at the same time. Issue 1 comes from Justina Ireland and Lorenzo Tammetta.
Cloak and Dagger Enter the Age of Revelation
As of October 1, Marvel’s X-Men line has officially entered the Age of Revelation. This new era jumps ten years into the future, depicting a world where the villainous Revelation has founded his own tyrannical mutant nation, controlled by his hypnotic voice. Some heroes like Wolverine and Psylocke have been corrupted by Revelation, while others – like Cloak and Dagger – live as rebel heroes.
Cloak or Dagger sees Cloak and Dagger’s dark and light powers clash, meaning that they essentially share a body, with control shifting from one to the other. Despite being married, the two can no longer be together. Will that change thanks to a clash with the villainous Fenris Twins? The issue’s summary reads:
GHOSTED! X YEARS LATER, and Tandy and Tyrone have tied the knot – but their bond has come with a terrible cost. Now they can no longer exist on the same plane at the same time. Reunited at last, the fan-favorite characters from the hit Marvel Rivals face a love story warped by power and fate.
Cloak and Dagger’s Redesign Emerges from Their Marvel Rivals Popularity
Marvel Rivals players will be familiar with the mechanic of swapping between Cloak and Dagger on the battlefield. With that and the first issue’s summary name-dropping the game, it certainly seems like this new three-issue miniseries is built on the characters’ Marvel Rivals popularity. It’s a smart move from Marvel, given Cloak and Dagger are generally in the top three characters chosen by players, functioning as a combined Strategist.
These new costumes offer an awesome new look at the characters while also marking the milestone of their marriage. Given the way their powers in this state mirror Marvel Rivals‘ gameplay, it’s a look that needs to be made available as a cosmetic sooner rather than later. Unlike other characters, the pair don’t have a lot of cosmetics based on comic storylines, but the Age of Revelation is serving up the perfect design on a silver platter.
Hopefully, Marvel Rivals quickly includes the new redesign of Cloak and Dagger as a playable skin, because with its major thematic relevance and apparent links to the game, it’s hard to imagine a costume change more perfectly designed to please fans.
Cloak or Dagger #1 is coming October 29 from Marvel Comics.
