A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is truly becoming its own underdog story on IMDb.
The Game of Thrones spinoff slowly became a sensation, with each episode showcasing the intense Targaryen drama and the inspiring story of a hedge knight proving his honor. While the early episodes set the tone by depicting Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffley) and his squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), the drama escalated once the knight stepped in to save a puppeteer against a brutal Aerion Targaryen.
Since then, audiences have been stunned by the quality of the Game of Thrones spinoff after each passing episode. Now, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has seen a significant boost in the overall IMDb score. As of writing, the spinoff currently has a 9.0 rating on the site. The updated rating puts it ahead of House of the Dragon (8.3) and just behind the original Game of Thrones (9.2).
When A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premiered in late January, the IMDb rating debuted at 8.4. It slowly grew, as the individual episodes showed a rising trend for the series. The early episodes have individual ratings in the low to mid-8s, but the latest two episodes landed in the high 9s. Currently, “In the Name of the Mother” is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms‘ highest-rated episode with a 9.6.
While A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is proving its worth at Game of Thrones’ level, it’s also sparked some drama with another highly beloved TV show. Breaking Bad season 5, episode 14, “Ozymandias,” was considered one of the top-tiered episodes of all time with a perfect 10. However, that rating dropped in recent days as viewers are review bombing the episode, which is currently at 9.7.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has also seen some rating manipulation, with the recent episode dropping from 9.7 to 9.6, which isn’t as significant. However, the series finale, which has not aired yet, currently has an 8.0. It’s unclear if IMDb will set protocols to combat the review bombing.
The new Game of Thrones spinoff is based on George R. R. Martin’s novella Tales of Dunk and Egg. Season 1 follows the content from A Hedge Knight. The iconic author himself gave his approval of the series, calling it “just incredible” and “it’s as faithful as adaptation as a reasonable man could hope for.”
Although season 1 is already coming to a close, HBO renewed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for season 2, which is expected to follow The Sworn Sword. It’s currently filming, but there have been no confirmations of a release date.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 finale airs on February 22 at 10 PM ET on HBO Max.
