Why Liverpool should be going all out in the race for Michael Olise this summer


While Liverpool might have mounted a European comeback last week as they extended on their Champions League adventure, Arne Slot’s position at Anfield remains firmly under the microscope.

Heading into March’s international break with a 2-1 loss away at Brighton, there has been plenty of speculation that the Dutch tactician will be removed from the Anfield dugout this summer.

Likewise, with continued links over Xabi Alonso’s potential return to the red half of Merseyside, Liverpool could be set to get a new era underway ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

In what was major breaking news on Tuesday night, Egyptian icon Mohamed Salah announced that he will be ending his nine-year spell at Anfield at the end of the season.

Called-up to France’s squad for March’s international break and expected to play a leading role for Les Bleus at this summer’s World Cup, Olise finds his stock at a red-hot high and has blossomed into one of Europe’s hottest commodities.

With his sights set on completing an iconic silverware sweep with Bayern this year, the ex-Palace youngster has also shattered a string of personal records with the German giants.

Becoming the first player since at least 2004/05 to reach double figures for both goals and assists in his debut Bundesliga season, Olise has also registered 28 direct goal contributions in his 25 top-flight appearances this year (11 goals, 17 assists).

With it suggested that Bayern value the 24-year-old north of £150million, Olise’s current deal in Munich runs until the summer of 2029 and Kompany’s side are in no need to sell.

Alongside continued speculation over Slot’s long-term future at Anfield, it has now been confirmed that Liverpool’s attacking icon will be ending his historic tenure in the red half of Merseyside this summer.

At the heart of a public feud with Slot prior to leaving for the 2026 AFCON, Salah will Anfield at the end of the season and draw a line under his sensational nine-year spell with the reigning Premier League giants.

With reports suggesting that the Egyptian poster boy could be set for a bank-breaking move to Saudi Arabia this summer, Salah would undeniably leave a huge void at Anfield.

However, while Liverpool fans would undoubtably be heartbroken to watch their iconic number 10 bid farewell at the end of the 2025/26 campaign, they would certainly be excited by the prospect of Olise’s arrival as a superstar replacement.

While Liverpool might remain heavily linked with what would be a record-breaking move this summer, the English heavyweights appear to have some major competition on their hands.

With Real Madrid seriously facing the prospect of once again missing out on a single piece of silverware this season, club president Florentino Perez has reportedly made it clear that he wants to produce a marquee arrival.

With a figure in the region of £139million being discussed, reports over the past week have suggested that Perez himself is spearhead a potential record-breaking move this summer and Madrid have identified Olise as their dream new Galactico.
