Who doesn’t love free stuff? Well, when it comes to gaming, getting something for free can sometimes be a mixed bag. Our time is precious and not all games are made equal. That said, Pawprint Studio are bringing a game to PlayStation that looks worthy of a second glance. A cute open world RPG with a focus on creature capture and exploration? Wait…isn’t that Pokémon?
With no official release date yet, we’re very much in the dark about when Aniimo is coming out. They have recently completed their second closed beta of the game so it’s safe to say that it’s coming very soon. Visually, the game seems to have taken heavy inspiration from Palworld and Infinity Nikki, and we’re all hoping that this one slips under Nintendo’s lawyers’ radar. Best of all, a recent press release confirms that Aniimo is coming to PS5!
Aniimo Is Officially Coming To PS5
Gotta Catch Em All For Free
No PlayStation Plus subscription needed. Aniimo will be free to play for all PS5 owners when it launches. We’ve seen plenty of free-to-play games with gacha elements, but recently there’s been a batch of really worthwhile free-to-play games that are definitely worth checking out. The likes of Infinity Nikki, Honkai Starrail and Where Winds Meet all deliver on the player experience without gouging gamers for money. Hopefully Aniimo will follow suit and leave the pay to win game model firmly in the bin.
Aniimo promises a free-to-play open-world RPG adventure where you collect creatures to unlock different abilities and will give Pokémon fans something new to obsess over. The game is set in the fantastical world of Idyll where you’ll explore new landscapes and bond with creatures using the Twining mechanic. You’ll also spend your time solving mysteries, uncovering puzzles and developing your homeland through farming, building and customization. Aniimo will feature PvP and PvE events to keep the content fresh too.
The Free RPG Is Also Hitting Xbox
Free Across Multiple Platforms
It’s not only Sony ponies who are in for a good time. Aniimo will launch across multiple platforms, including Xbox, PC and iOS. Great news for couch dwellers like me, as you can play on the console of your choice or even take to the keyboard and mouse if that’s your preferred way to play. Aniimo will feature at Pax East later this week and will be playable for those who attend. Another chance to see a gorgeous open world sandbox RPG in action.
With two major closed betas behind it and a playable version available later this week for attendees at Pax East, it looks likely that we’ll all have the chance to play Aniimo on PlayStation very soon. Hopefully, the developers will share more official news soon, but for now we’ll just have to bide our time and wait to see if this can compete with Pokémon Alola Seaglass for the title of best Pokémon game. Personally, I’m very much looking forward to testing out Pikachu’s (sorry, I mean Bolty’s!) lightning powers on a boss. Look away Nintendo…nothing to see here!
