A three-part action show is getting a sequel soon, which makes the original series perfect to binge-watch on Disney+ this weekend. Marvel’s Daredevil, which was originally on Netflix, is one of the best superhero shows ever made, and certainly one of the MCU’s best shows.
It’s always worth binge-watching Daredevil, as it’s a great show, but now is the best time there’s ever been to rewatch it or start it for the first time. That’s because Daredevil has a sequel, Daredevil: Born Again, and that sequel is getting a new season. Not only that, Born Again is just the first MCU project to make Daredevil a centerpiece of its story.
The Original Daredevil Is More Important Now Than Ever Thanks To Born Again Season 2
Though Daredevil was canceled after its third season in 2018, the story of Matt Murdock is far from over. Charlie Cox reprised the role of Matt in Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+, and Born Again season 2 is bringing him back once again on March 24. As a result, the original Daredevil is more relevant than it has been in years. Daredevil provides so much context for Born Again; it’s impossible to watch the revival without seeing the original first.
Born Again also isn’t the only reason the original Daredevil is back in vogue. So many upcoming Marvel shows and movies are building off the foundation Daredevil left. Jon Bernthal’s Punisher is coming back for a TV special, and all of his backstory was introduced in Daredevil. The Punisher is also returning in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has already been officially connected to Born Again through the Hand, a Daredevil villain.
On top of all that, several side characters connected to the original Daredevil are also set to appear in Born Again. Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones is in Born Again season 2, while both Luke Cage and Iron Fist, the other members of the Defenders, are expected to make an appearance. Daredevil is quite literally the linchpin connecting some of the biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe projects of the next few weeks.
Daredevil Is Also A Perfect Show To Binge-Watch On Its Own
Even if you don’t plan to watch Daredevil: Born Again or already have all the context needed to understand it, Daredevil is still a show worth binge-watching. Daredevil was one of the best shows on Netflix before it moved to Disney+, and it’s now one of the best action thrillers on the entire streaming service. Every single episode is filled with brutal, grounded action, mystery, intrigue, drama, and some of the most stunning visuals in the entire MCU.
Daredevil & The Defenders Complete Timeline: What Order To Watch
The Netflix Marvel shows are more important to the Marvel Cinematic Universe than ever, and here is the correct order to watch every one of them.
Daredevil is also a perfect show for “superhero fatigue.” It features none of the tongue-in-cheek jokes, the outlandish superpowers, the world-threatening villains, or anything else that can turn fans off of superhero movies. Daredevil is a gritty, grounded, and realistic story that’s closer to a crime thriller than a superhero story. You also don’t need any additional context going into it; you can watch Daredevil without ever having seen an MCU movie before.
The biggest reason to watch Daredevil, however, is because it’s a great show. It’ll have you on the edge of your seat and completely invested in the relationships between Matt, Foggy, and Karen. The great performances from Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will move and excite you. The fight scenes will widen your eyes and the twists will knock your socks off. I can’t oversell Daredevil because it’s just that good.
Trying To Watch All Of Netflix’s Marvel Shows Is Too Much, But Daredevil Is Enough
Ideally, a fan who wants to watch Daredevil: Born Again season 2 would watch all the Marvel shows Netflix produced. In reality, that’s far too tall of an order. Netflix made six shows — Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders — that sum up to 13 seasons of television. All of those shows had hour-long episodes, and every season had between 10 and 13 episodes. In total, it’s hundreds of hours of television.
It’s not possible to binge-watch the Defenders saga in any reasonable amount of time, and it’s also not worth it. While Daredevil and Jessica Jones are great shows, the saga had its bad moments, particularly Iron Fist and The Defenders. Daredevil, on the other hand, is three great seasons that will keep you on the edge of your seat for the entire runtime.
Daredevil also does a very good job of preparing viewers for Born Again season 2 and the other upcoming projects all on its own. Daredevil features all of Matt Murdock’s story, most of Kingpin’s, most of the Punisher’s, introduces the Hand, and more. If you’re just looking for a (relatively) short show to watch so you understand the next few Marvel projects, you can’t go wrong with Daredevil.
