Matt Turner hopes the New England Revolution can string a run of wins together to help strengthen his chances of representing the United States of America at the 2026 World Cup.
The 31-year-old featured in all four of the USMNT’s games at the 2022 edition in Qatar, and he is now eager to play in front of their home crowds on the biggest stage.
The Revolution have won just one of their opening three games in MLS this season, though that was a 6-1 victory over FC Cincinnati last weekend.
Turner impressed in the win at Gillette Stadium, making seven saves, and he will be looking to make a similar contribution against St Louis City on Saturday.
The former Arsenal goalkeeper believes his club form will play a big role in his World Cup ambitions, as he is not willing to make up the numbers in the squad either.
“My play here in New England is going to have a massive impact on what happens for me at the national team,” Turner told the club website.
“So, I want to win first and foremost. I want us to create some excitement and buzz in front of bigger crowds.
“Then, get those feelings really high heading into the March windows and beyond.
“I’ve sacrificed a lot in the last four years to put myself in the best position I possibly can to be on that team. Not just to be on it, but to be a contributing member.”

St Louis are the only team yet to win in the Western Conference this season, picking up just one point from their opening four matches.
St Louis have suffered three consecutive shutout defeats, including a 2-0 loss at Los Angeles FC last Saturday.
This is just the second time in club history that St Louis have suffered three straight shutout losses, also doing so in March-April 2025.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
St Louis City – Marcel Hartel
Marcel Hartel is St Louis’ only goalscorer this season, and he showed more signs of promise in their defeat to LAFC.
He registered a joint-match-high four shots, created the joint-most chances (two) and won 100% of his duels (three).
New England Revolution – Luca Langoni
Luca Langoni recorded assists for three of New England’s six goals against Cincinnati, the first player with three assists in a regular-season match for the Revolution since Brandon Bye in 2022.
All three assists were primary assists, making Langoni the third Revs player with three primary assists in a match.
MATCH PREDICTION – ST LOUIS CITY WIN
This will be the Revolution’s first away match against St Louis. The only previous meeting between the sides was a 2-2 draw in Foxborough in September 2024.
New England equalled their largest margin of victory (five goals) and most goals scored (six) in an MLS match in their 6-1 victory over Cincinnati.
It was New England’s first six-goal performance in all competitions since a 6-1 win over the Colorado Rapids in September 2004.
St. Louis are the lowest scoring team in MLS this season with just one goal, despite attempting 58 shots, fifth-most in the league in 2025. Only four teams have managed more shots on target than St Louis’s 22 this season.
OPTA WIN PROBABILITY
