MLS: New England and Vancouver hit six in routs

The New England Revolution picked up their first win in MLS in 2026 with a thumping 6-1 comeback win over 10-man FC Cincinnati.

Having scored just once across their opening two matchdays, New England turned on the style after Gerardo Valenzuela’s 19th-minute opener.

Brayan Ceballos netted a first-half brace, equalizing in the 25th minute before adding his second on the stroke of half-time after Dor Turgeman had put the Revs in front.

Alhassan Yusuf got their fourth after the break before Valenzuela was shown a straight red card for a late challenge on Ilay Feingold.

With a numerical advantage, Griffin Yow and Peyton Miller both struck in the final three minutes of the 90 to cap the scoring.

The Vancouver Whitecaps also hit six as they thrashed Minnesota United 6-0 to make it four wins from four in MLS this season.

The Whitecaps were 4-0 up by half-time, with Sepp Berhalter, Bryan White, Mathias Laborda and Emmanuel Sabbi putting the game out of Minnesota’s reach.

White then grabbed his second from the spot after the break, with substitute Cheikh Sabaly finishing off the scoring with 16 minutes remaining.

Elsewhere, the Seattle Sounders ended the San Jose Earthquakes’ perfect start to 2026 with a 1-0 victory at PayPal Park.

The ‘Quakes had not conceded a goal this season heading into Sunday’s game, but Paul Rothrock’s 20th-minute strike ended that streak.

Data Debrief: An unexpected comeback

Given their start to the season, New England might have been expected to let their heads drop after conceding the opener, but instead, they flipped the script.

They have now won after conceding the opening goal in MLS for the first time since October 2023, going 38 games without a win in such circumstances after that.

The scoreline may still come as a surprise, though. The Revolution got their goals from just 1.88 expected goals (xG), while having 16 shots, 10 of which were on target, to Cincinnati’s 15 (nine on target).
