Rice set for new Arsenal deal?

Arsenal have opened contract talks with midfielder Declan Rice, according to BBC Sport.

The Gunners have made tremendous progress over the past few years and Rice has been a vital figure in the centre of the park.

The Englishman initially started as a holding midfielder, but has featured more in a central midfield position this campaign.

Martin Zubimendi‘s arrival has freed up Rice, who has been handed the opportunity to push higher up the field when required.

It is now reported that the Gunners have begun discussions over a new long-term contract with Rice beyond the summer of 2028.

The midfielder has two years left on his deal with an option for 12 months, but Arsenal want to secure the prime years of his career.

He currently earns a salary of around £240,000 per week and the Gunners could bring him to the £300,000 weekly bracket with the renewal.

Talks are at the initial stage and a deal is far from being agreed.
