8 New Boruto Jutsu So Strong, They’re Beyond God Tier

Naruto Uzumaki ended his titular manga’s 700-chapter run by setting the bar high for any would-be successors, thanks to his spectacular feats of power as a shinobi. In the sequel series, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, the torch begun the process of being handed over, but Boruto: Two Blue Vortex showed multiple key ninjas’ massive growth.

Now, Konoha’s new generation of shinobi have unleashed multiple iconic jutsu, their own spins on techniques of their predecessors, and others being wholly new. They range from traditional ninjutsu and obligatory Rasengan spins, to new takes on classic dōjutsu, to frightening and godly shinjutsu, and will shape the future of Boruto with these eight leading the pack.

Wind Style: Rasen Barricade

Wind Style: Rasen Barricade in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter #11

Used by Konohamaru Sarutobi and debuting in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter #11, this defensive spin on an already high-difficulty technique was an impressive iteration. What’s especially shocking is that, unlike perfect defenses from the past like Gaara’s sand, this can even stop a Chidori, much to Divine Tree Hidari’s dismay.

For now, there’s little else to say about Konohamaru’s new technique. Its broader applications, knowing the Boruto series’ tendency to go big and loud with successive Rasengan attacks, strongly suggests Konohamaru could use this on a greater scale in the future. But at the very least, it’s an incredible new technique that helps Konohamaru stand out once again.

Flying Raijin Jutsu (Boruto)

While falling short in terms of precision and refinement to the original space-time jutsu and signature move of Minato Namikaze, Boruto has made impeccable use of it so far. It makes sense that he’d develop his own take on the hit-and-run technique, doubtlessly influenced by spending years on the run from a village brainwashed into thinking he killed his father.

Relying instead on individual, distinctively-shaped metal objects as waypoints for this space-time jutsu, Boruto gets a particular guerrilla edge with proven effectiveness. Using everything from Sasuke’s Sword of Kusanagi, to various weapons and tools like distinctive pins, Boruto has been able to zip in and out of combat with solid evasiveness, making short work of Matsuri in chapter #21.

A kenjutsu geared toward amplifying an enhanced version of the Sword of Kusanagi, this technique coats the blade in lightning chakra to boost its sharpness. It’s proven effective against enemies like Matsuri and now Mamushi, and was further-enhanced by Sumire’s latest upgrades.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is going over well, but some key returns could help bring its world to life.

Thanks to scientific ninja tool enhancements, the Uchiha Flowing Blade Jutsu: Hagoromo’s taxing demands on focused chakra are lessened, instead subtly feeding off the chakra of its user to sustain the technique. This allows Boruto greater opportunities to stay concentrated on the fight at hand, freeing himself up to use other techniques in tandem, making this a great tactical asset.

Mind Transmission Formation

Inojin Yamanaka’s new signature ninjutsu is a critical boon to the efforts to fight the Divine Trees. Capable of creating a telepathic network able to perceive the unique vibrations of the Divine Trees in real-time, it’s already being put to use as a vital instrument to bring down Mamushi’s rampage in Konoha.

But the backstory behind Inojin’s new jutsu is incredibly tragic, him being coerced into learning it under the pretense that, in a worse future, he developed it to avenge Himawari Uzumaki. Koji Kashin knew of the boy’s romantic feelings for her, using this information to lure him into colluding with Boruto, despite the boy still believing Boruto to be a traitor to his village.

Rasengan Uzuhiko

Boruto’s new take on the Rasengan, in addition to unexpected creations in the past like the Vanishing variant, has continuously proven its immense power in the heat of battle. Code was the first to be held hostage by its might, the jutsu channeling planetary chakra to create an internal energy vortex capable of disintegrating victims from within.

Hidari was the first “casualty” to this technique, his lower body being obliterated by its might before being finished off by Kawaki in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter #12. Possibly the greatest single-target jutsu the hero has yet to use, Rasengan Uzuhiko is Boruto’s true signature version of the classic technique, this time wholly developed to defeat the Ōtsutsuki threat.

Division

Itself a frightening spin on techniques like Mū’s Fission Technique and Ten-Tails Fission, Division is the signature shinjutsu of Mamushi. It allows Mamushi to create endless independent yet equally-powerful clones, capable of unleashing untold damage wherever it’s turned loose.

The Mamushi Arc is built on Boruto’s team covertly working together to stop Mamushi from destroying Konoha, purposely drawing him to the village while knowing it means Jura will stay out of play. While such a huge number of Divine Tree clones is horrifying, their fatal flaw comes when, after mass quantities of clones are created, their collective intelligence gradually reaches feral lows.

Ōhirume

First unleashed by Sarada Uchiha with incredible results in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter #21, Ōhirume is the signature power of her Mangekyō Sharingan eyes. As a narrative reference to the alternate name of Amaterasu Ōmikami, goddess of the Sun, Sarada’s technique appropriately summons what resemble miniature stars with powerful gravitational pulls, capable of detonating their victims.

Ōhirume was instrumental in defeating the newly-created Ryū Divine Tree, whose Iron Sand control was a deadly threat to Boruto and his allies. Promptly avenging Yodo, whom Ryū killed, Sarada had her major cathartic moment marked by awakening this technique. Its singular drawback, the classic blindness from Sharingan overuse, can be offset if Sarada acquires the eternal Mangekyō Sharingan.

Prescience (Ten Directions)

Koji Kashin reveals his Prescience powers and how they indicate a multiverse of bad futures in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex
Custom image by J.R. Waugh

Koji Kashin’s shinjutsu and the driving force behind much of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex’s narrative, every decision is predetermined by its ability, leaving Koji with frightening glimpses of dark futures ahead. While he acknowledges that too much awareness of the branching timelines creates more dangerously chaotic variables, it’s already yielded plenty for the plot.

Through Prescience, Koji has been able to predict the events of Boruto’s mission in the Land of Wind as well as in repelling Mamushi’s attack on Konoha. It’s definitely got the most wide-ranging applications of the new jutsu in Boruto, thoroughly on the level of gods like Shibai Ōtsutsuki, but it’s also guiding our heroes into darkly pragmatic choices ahead.
