Even though RPG fans are all waiting for Baldur’s Gate 4 after the monumental success of its predecessor in 2023, the franchise’s biggest competitor just entered Early Access, providing fans with a different option for a turn-based game inspired by the rules of Dungeons & Dragons. The sequel to Larian’s award-winning game is not an impossible dream, as Wizards of the Coast has already confirmed Baldur’s Gate 4. The issue is that it is still a long way away from arriving.
However, fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 who are eager for its sequel may find solace knowing that its biggest competitor is now playable. Arriving this Thursday, March 12, Solasta 2 is now available in its Early Access version, allowing players to check out what the developers at Tactical Adventures have been crafting. The title is currently available in Early Access via Steam, and players will be able to play it as the developers continue to work on the game.
Solasta 2 Has Just Entered Early Access
The Turn-Based RPG Is At A Reduced Price
One of the most anticipated RPGs of 2026, Solasta 2 is a tactical turn-based RPG that builds upon the mold of its predecessor, Solasta: Crown of the Magister, and uses D&D’s SRD 5.2 ruleset, which is essentially the 5.5e rules from 2024. In its Early Access version, Solasta 2 is currently a work-in-progress, which means the game isn’t completely finished, and the developers are still making changes, adding new content, and fixing details based on player feedback.
A similar thing happened with Baldur’s Gate 3, years before it was finally released – so much so that Early Access players remember certain remarkable character interactions that didn’t make it into the final version of the game. Early Access for Solasta 2 is expected to last around one year, at least, according to information provided by the developers on its Steam page.
In Early Access, players can experience a portion of Act 1, with a max level cap of 4. This will allow you to understand the game, get a grasp of your party, and more. Over time, leading up to the final version, the RPG will also receive online co-op multiplayer, extra playable races and ancestry options, more locations, more monsters, and more quests.
In Early Access, Solasta 2 is currently being offered at a 10% discount for $35.99, down from $39.59. This is a special price for Early Access, as the game will have a higher price for Version 1.0. Those who purchase it in Early Access will have access to the full version once it is released.
Solasta 2 Is A Great Baldur’s Gate 3 Competitor
The Turn-Based RPG Seems Promising
Solasta 2 is a spiritual successor to the Baldur’s Gate franchise. The game follows a similar gameplay structure seen in Larian’s RPG, with turn-based combat following D&D’s ruleset, including limited movement and actions per turn. If you’ve already reached the different endings for BG3 and are looking for a new dense RPG with a remarkable cast (Ben Starr, Devora Wilde, Amelia Tyler, and Ellen Thomas), Solasta 2 may be a great option for you.
It is necessary to understand that the game is still in development, so players may encounter bugs and other issues on top of the lack of content they’d expect from a finished game. Even so, starting to play now – or at least purchasing it now – seems like a worthwhile endeavor considering its reduced price. Solasta 2 is a promising new RPG competitor for Baldur’s Gate 3, and being able to check it out now is extremely exciting.
