This Free Steam JRPG Is A 9/10 Gem You Can Keep Forever

A new JRPG recently released on Steam with 9/10 reviews can be claimed for free and kept forever, allowing you to play it at any given time with your account. It’s been a particularly great year for free games on the platform, with some remarkable releases, even if a lot of them are hidden gems. Just recently, two free games arrived on Steam, offering players new options to expand their library.

Now, a new title has been made available on the platform, and it is being considered pretty good by its players. Released on March 6, Metal Hunter is a new JRPG that mixes classic gameplay from the genre with tanks. Available on Steam, the indie game is completely free, which means you can redeem it and it will join your library permanently. As such, you can then download it at any time as long as it remains listed on the platform.

Control Humans & Tanks In This JRPG

Even though its premise is a bit different from what you’d expect, Metal Hunter is a JRPG that is fashioned in old-school style. With a pixel art style, the game allows you to control both humans and tanks to traverse what is described as a “ruined wasteland world” to hunt down monsters and criminals alike. Regarding gameplay, you can expect classic turn-based RPG combat.

With the game, you’ll assemble a party of Metal Hunters who drive tanks and set off into the world to do their jobs. The developer left a remark on the game’s product page on Steam, saying that Metal Hunter is an experimental imitation work based on JRPGs. They explain that it was first conceived as a project in 2012 and that it was abandoned, later being expanded on, but this is the reason that it is a free game on Steam rather than a commercial product.

If You’re Looking For A New JRPG, This Could Be It

In many regards, Metal Hunter is an RPG like Final Fantasy, at least the early iterations of the franchise. If you’re a fan of either Square Enix’s franchise or the genre, the new game added to Steam is a fairly good option, especially considering the free-to-play nature that grants you access to it without having to spend a penny. On Steam, the game has 93% Positive reviews, so it may be worth checking out.

There are plenty of free games on the platform, but getting to know which ones may be good as hidden gems may be difficult. Metal Hunter is one of these examples that needs more recognition, and fans of JRPGs may delight in it for free on Steam.
